Just got word on the van. Its the PVC valve. $285.00

Let's see this month the PVC valve, last month brakes, the month before sensors. That is three so I am done?

Hello everyone! Danged miserable weather here with temp at 90 and the humidity close to it. Flo, how about some of that homemade lemonade.

Jim, I am very sorry to learn of the loss of your friends. That is one of the problems we face when we get older; we lose more and more.
I wish that you were correct about the gas prices, but I have to agree with Paul. The least little thing will jack it back up like: rain in the Amazon, a blizzard in Alaska, a seagull peed on a tanker...:D The control that the hedge funds and speculators have, reminds me of the Hunt brothers and the silver buy-up. Oh yeah, don't forget the yearly jack up on July 4th  .

James, our gov has some ridiculously similar ideas about helping us cope with the gas prices. Instead of addressing today's problem, most talk about solutions that will help 20 years from now:rolleyes: .One of the problems we have in the South is public transportation is almost non-existent, causing everyone to use their autos for everything...without choice.

Steve: Oink!!:D

Back to the layout and work on the new yard. CUL

Afternoon everyone!

Was nice and sunny this morning but mostly cloudy now with a threat of thunderboomers this eveing. That's OK as we need some rain here in the Finger Lakes.

I spent part of the morning over at school putting away and storing the mikes and other equipment used for the concerts. Also started to train one of the Middle School teachers (English) on how to use the board. He is also a fine musician (one of my students many years ago) and has been working on a recording with me for a while now. There seems to be some agreement in the music dept. that some of them really need to start learning the ropes on this. I have been promoting this for the last couple of years as I know my hearing is getting worse and they need to be able to run the board if I am sick or just can't do it anymore.

I also was helping my son with the lights on his new (ancient) boat trailer. Only the turn signals work on it and they only sporatically. I have convinced him to start over and totally redo the lights and do it right. He agrees so that will be my next project......

I'm going to go down cellar and see if the trains are still there..... Later!

Afternoon, everyone,

As Rex, Eric, and CJ probably know, a funeral in the South isn't just a funeral. It's an event. There's visitation the night before, then the funeral, then we all go out to the cemetery for the graveside service, then we all go over to the church for food and sit around for about two hours visiting. A funeral pretty well shoots about two days and three funerals take up a whole week. I can tell you there's nothing more fun that standing around in 95 degree heat at the cemetery for an hour.

Funerals... ah Jim you left one thing out. The Church bringing enough food to feed Patton's Third Army! For three weeks afters Pam lost her Father in November, there was no grocery shopping, no cooking, or even making coffee. Seemed like evry 5-10 minutes someone was bringing by something for us to eat. "No trouble, no trouble at all...."

Haven't been on here for a while. MD says it seems I had a serious reaction to my last treatment. Been kinda puny for this past week and trying to get better. No Mrring at all. Next treatment I get to start taking steroids as a pre-op. Ugh.

Carey I was wondering where you were. Hope everything will go well for you!

The weather prognosticators here are saying around a half inch of rain tomorrow, so I may just have to spend the day with the trains........ I would love to get out to the museum to help with some projects, but my son's old Boy Scout Troop will be celebrating their 90th. year of service to youth in Geneva. I was a committeeman and an assistant Scoutmaster with that troop before I became Scoutmaster of another troop in town. I am looking forward to seeing some people that I haven't seen in ages.

I accomplished everything on my list today. I got two new tires to replace the two that I've been using to leave 20 foot black streaks on the roads. That was $115. I got the car inspected, $10. I paid my bills, cable, electricity, car insurance. That was $218. I got the groceries I need right away, $49. I'll get the rest when my food stamp allotment comes in on the third. I went to Hobby Lobby in Alexandria and picked up $76 worth of stuff there. A Bachmann Flatcar, a jar of fine gray blend ballast, two boxes of hand-made Life-Like green shade trees and three WS Scenic Accents packs of figures. A1832 Moms & Kids, A1829 People Sitting and A1869 Baseball Players (kids playing baseball). Lastly, I just renewed my driver's license from the comfort of my home by renewing online. It only costs two dollars more than going to the OMV office.

Carey I was wondering where you were. Hope everything will go well for you!

Thanx Ray, I'm sure everything will be fine. Since my treatment is like a transfusion, (the IgH does come from human donors), sometimes there's a little bit of a reaction. I think the combo of just having come in from Little Rock, lack of a good sleep, and just no rest, predisposed me to react this time. No big deal as I have 2-3 reactions like this a year. Not life threatening at all, just verrryyy uncomfortable. All I want to do when they happen is sleep.

William, (L&NCastle), came over tonight and just to get out of the house we went down to Irondale and watched the NS for several hours. Saw several Run-Thrus on the old CofG, (yard bypass) track, mucho switching and at least 6 trains pull out.

They have finished the track realignment thru there with the installations of new signals, removal of one crossing gate, and installing of the double track on the CofG bypass. Activity is on the upswing there. Need to go back and get some pix in the daylight.

Mornin' everyone!

A bit dark and dreary outside right at the moment, but we needed the rain that fell last night. Still a few showers in the area and some possibly severe thunderstorms expected this afternoon and evening. 71°F outside with the predicted high for the day at 72°.

I think I will spend the day working on the layout before going to the Boy Scout Troop 4 reunion this evening.

Have a great day!

Good morning folks

It is 76 F and humid. High today will be around 83 F. We are waiting for the thunderstorms to roll in. They are out in Lancaster and Berks Counties right now. We are currently under a Tornado Watch.

I picked up the van this morning. It was a PVC valve and it cost $285.00.

I am heading out in a few moments to the hardware store. We are going to pick-up some sand for the basketball court to replace the broken bricks and cut tree limbs keeping it stable.

I hope everybody has a good day.

It's still morning so a good one to all ! Carey good to see you and best wishes with your treatments. Like Ray said it's a kind iffy day here but mistly on the fi you stay out of the rain. Steve that has to be some sight . I guess that is what you call " Bringing Home The Bacon " . Jim what you say is true gas consumption is down . But as long as China continues to grow as a world consumer I think there will always be a high demand for the black gold . What we need to do is start to seriously stop the oil companies form holding us hostage . Untill we stop putting our money into retirement funds that invest in oil companies they will hold us hostage . And everyone is guilty of it. If they told you that your check is not coming because we stopped investing in Mutual Funds that puts your money in oil . If that check stopped once a month who would cry first ? Well enough I have to go gas up the lawn mower . Have a real nice Saturday All !!!!!!!

As soon as every one starts to invest in oil futures the bottom will fall out and prices will drop...LOL's! Remember the 70's and 80's That was hell? Fuel Prices went nuts as well as the media, Government as soon as we got ready to drill in our own back yard and get our own oil, opec got cold feet droped their prices fast From $100to $20 a barrel! That PO the oil Companies.... Once bitten twice Shy! As soon as the government lays off the oil companies and opens up areas for drilling, Wind, Solar, Nuke power and doing coal to oil. Watch how fast Canada, Mexico, South America, and OPEC drops their prices just to keep our business! I just hope this time the oil, coal, and power companies carry the drilling and stuff out any ways so we're not put in this again! JMO and 2 cents!

I got my new computer mainboard today. Opening the box was an eye-opening experience. That sucker has a LIQUID COOLED CPU! The cooling unit is bigger than my fist. The processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 3GHZ Dual-Core in an AM2 socket. The board is a MSI K9N4 SLI with DDR2 800 memory and uses the Nvidia eForce 500 SLI chipset. This thing is supposed to be super fast! The primary reason I got it is because it supports up to four IDE devices as well as four SATA devices. I'm starting it off on one GB of RAM. It's expandable up to eight GBs.

Now I just need the time and proper physical condition to install it. In other words, I have to wait for a time when I don't have the shakes.

Afternoon, everyone.

Tom, I hope everything is OK up there. There is some really nasty weather moving through PA right now.

Thanks, Rex. Indeed, one of the problems with getting older is that all your friends and family do it with you. It was weird that all three of these people who died were younger than me. Makes me feel like the Grim Reaper is a little closer.

Steve, did anyone figure out where that porker came from? Is it a wild or domesticated pig? Seems like a thing someone would miss if they owned it. :)

Ray, glad to see you were able to convince your son to let you redo all the wiring on his trailer. I thought you were supposed to be the one retired. :D

Chris, those guys over at your Fox station need to stop smoking that wacky weed. Having worked in the electric utility industry in the generation and transmission side of the house, I know that there's no way that anyone could "hack" into our SCADA systems and shutdown anything. Most of them have only local connections to microwave networks and you'd need to have some way to hack into encrypted microwave signals from China. Just can't be done. Some guy in the power control center hit a couple of buttons in the wrong sequence and the system shut down to protect itself. That's built into the system. The human error factor is the cause of 99% of these kind of massive blackouts.

CJ, I'm glad you're doing at least mostly OK. You're right about the food thing and I forgot having to go over to the house and delivering it. That's another hour shot for visiting. Still, it's nice to have a people who actually care about you, compared to California, where they'd step right over your dead body on the sidewalk.

I've been a commodities investor since the early 70's. Mostly gold and silver but some oil and natural gas too. There are always attempts to manipulate the commodities market because it's poorly regulated and everyone in it has kind of a wild west mentality. In the long run, though, commodity prices always fall (or rise) to a fair market value. The Hunt brothers and silver in the late 70's is actually a good illustration of this. They almost succeeded in cornering the silver market in the late 70's...almost. That 10% they didn't control started to sell out from underneath them when the prices had run up enough. That triggered massive margin calls as the price started to drop and the Hunts had liquidate most of their silver holdings in an attempt to stay afloat. It didn't work in the end and the were left bankrupt and silver went from a high of $50 an ounce on January 17, 1980 to $15 an ounce three months later. Markets that have advanced on a parabolic curve, like oil has done in the past year, will always reach a peak and then collapse. I'm not smart enough to predict when the price of oil will collapse but it will. The fair price of oil including extraction, transportation, profit, and overhead, is about $65 a barrel. The further oil moves away from that price, the closer it is to a collapse as speculators take their profits and long contract holders get killed by margin calls.

Anyway, the weather here has turned from miserable to unbearable. Had a high of 100 today with a heat index of 105. The low was only 73 so the A/C has a hard time keeping up with the demand. No rain in sight and it looks like we'll be stuck in this pattern for at least another five days with only the outside chance of a thunderstorm. We're going to a Montgomery Biscuits ball game tonight and all I can hope is that we're at least in the shade.

Jim Yeah, it came from down the road, a local farmer got a nice surprise to find his old sow in his front garden, and she closed the gate behind her :) bet that confused him some

I agree with you human error.....but it's nice to pass the blame on to china! LOL's
