Dan, I don't suppose PETA offered to pay of the "memorial", did they? I'm always in awe of how some groups know how to spend our money for their benefit.

So far no animal activists have been after me, Chris. Once I realized the owl didn't kill me, I really felt bad for it. He was a magnificent animal and I would have much preferred that it live out its appointed years instead of coming through my windshield. I don't know why owls are so prone to this type of behavior but several of our units have had owl collisions over the years. I think I had the record for the biggest one though. :(

As far as that jet man video, the first thing I'm surprised at is how much he looked like a WWII Me163 rocket propelled fighter while in the air. The second thing that struck me is what sane human would jump out of a perfectly good airplane to fly around with a wing with four highly explosive rockets strapped to his back? I predict his life insurance rates are going up substantially. :)

*Now picture a special intrest group getting a state to invest 87million dollars in a swamp! now who has who by the nads!

*I know you felt bad for that owl for about a second then went back to dressing it out for a BBQ Owl:p Jim, did that owl taste like chicken?

*I'm suprised the local PD let that guy take the rocket powered bike on the streets! Can you imagine the rockets blowing up on the street or a rocket busting loose!:eek::eek:

Just found out that the star parasite manager at our place gave out the rest of the redundancy letters friday,,, and everyone walked out leaving him alone to pick pack and ship all the orders on his own, ha ha ha wished i could have seen that!!!

WhoooWhoooWhoooWhooo,,, BBQ Owl repeats on ya don't it Chris, Jim can you get one a little less feathery next time

Question: What happens to parasites when the host dies and there ain't many hosts left to feed on:confused: Hmmmmmmm:rolleyes:

Owl ain't that bad when it comes to gas. Now Racoons, that's the one to watch out fer! Light a match and your going where no rocket man has gone before under your own power!:D

Hi All!

Although I think the Blue Angels do a decent job, ;) I prefer the Thunderbirds. Might have something to do with the fact that my brother has been flying F16's for many years.

Jeffrey...a few years ago, my sister and I were driving down a fairly rural highway when the car in front of us hit a bald eagle. Made me sick. I have no idea if the driver reported it or not, but I just hated seeing that happen.

Rex...ya hafta get those dawgs to sit still for a minute so you can take a picture. Sounds like they are growing way too fast!

Steve...sorry to hear about the lay-off. Sounds like you will come out okay, though. I hope so!

Jim...while driving from Las Vegas to Denver one night, a flippin' deer ran in front of my car. Looked right into my eyes as I hit it. I was devastated for days Poor thing didn't have a chance. Cannot imagine actually hunting one down!

Cold front moving through this weekend. Not nearly as cold as last weekend, but we won't break out of the teens this afternoon. Hopefully there will be a bit of snow on the ground for Christmas. I am glad I am not flying out of DIA this week. Bit of a mishap yesterday night.

Stay warm!

Sandy

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he didn't. Some years ago a friend of mine hit a falcon that swooped down in front of his car seemingly from out of nowhere. Naturally it was killed instantly. Being the law abiding citizen that he is he reported it, even waited for the wildlife official to show up to make the report. He ended up being fined a hefty sum because, and this is the wording on the finding, he could have gone off the road to avoid hitting the falcon! The road in question has deep ditches and is lined with trees on both sides. How could he get off the road?! Since when is a bird more important that someones life and safety? He fought the judgment and won.

I think the judge would have to be crazy to not rule the way he did on that one.

I know one time I was with my uncle in his truck going about 50 down the road (limit was 50), and we hit a full sized goose.

All we say was a giant puff of feathers.

No dents on the truck and no parts of the bird left.

Tonight's job is to go through all the old model railroader and railroad craftsman I have. A lot from the 70s in there. Also gonna plan or start work on a diorama of sorts.

Well the cold has arrived and I do mean COLD. When I picked up Glendia at work the temp was 2 degrees with a wind chill of at least -15. Just utterly brutal out there this evening. Went out and split a 16oz sirloin steak for supper man was it good. Stay worm everyone I iintend to by staying inside.

Evening Everyone.

Rex, The "horny" part would probably fit but I don't think the wife would go for it. :)

I had to turn the owl remains over to the Fish and Game officer as part of the Federal report. Don't know how he would have tasted but he would have been pretty crunchy with all that glass in him.

Hi, Phillip...don't crash into anything as you run out the door. :)

Steve, that boss now understands the meaning of maximizing efficiency. I wonder what time he got home Friday night? :D

Chris, I have no experience with raccoons as an epicurean delight but I think I'll forgo the pleasure after your report.

Sandy, the T-Birds also do a heck of a flying show. The Blue Angels are just willing to take a few more risks doing them. If you go to the AFG Meet thread in general discussions, you'll see a picture I posted of Rex's "pups". I've avoided more than a few deer collisions. I've also investigated a bunch of them. While I feel bad for the deer, a car/deer collision can and does produce fatal results for the driver. I have no idea what makes them jump directly out in front of you when you're the only car on the road for miles. That little mishap at DIA was an amazing piece of luck for the passengers. I have no idea what could have made the 737 go off the runway on takeoff but the fact no one was killed is a miracle.

Jeffrey, sounds like the wildlife officer went overboard on that citation. There's no requirement in any vehicle code I know that requires a driver to leave his own travel lane to avoid a collision with an animal, regardless of type. If the driver had left his travel lane to avoid an animal collision and hit another car and injured someone, he would be in a lot more trouble than hitting that falcon.

Larry, it's not as cold here as Indiana but the cold front did come through last night. Real skinny with about a half hour's rain and few claps of thunder. We got off lucky considering how warm the air was ahead of the front. It's down to 32 degrees right now and the only thing keeping the temperatures up is the wind. If it dies down, we'll go down to the low 20's. I know that's better than your high but we are pansies about cold temperatures down here.

Gotcha all beat!
One night in Virginia, I was coming home from playing a softball game. I saw cars slowing down, but didn't see anything wrong. I got into the inside lane and started around when a big white face was staring at me. Me and my 3 year old 1966 GTO smacked a young bull head-on...all 1000lbs of him. The local police on the scene got on his radio and said, "Hey Mac, you know that bull everyone has been looking for, I gotta fella that just found'um." Wasn't funny then, but is now. It turns out the bull was owned by one of the officers Uncle. It took 2 months to fix my car and didn't even get a steak out of it.:D

SANDY: I promise to get busy and get a photo...if they ever hold still long enough. May take 50 clicks to get one good photo:D.

My relatives from Pell City, AL, are up here visiting. They're staying at my M-I-L's since we don't have a mansion like they do, but the kids spend most of the daytimes hours at our place. I guess this weather is a major shock to their systems, LOL! Glad my kids don't have to go to school this week.

You'll get no argument from me on that. When the case was brought up to fight the findings the judge said exactly the same thing.

Good morning.

It's 28 here with a wind chill of 19 and it is clear. The high should be around 40 and it will be partly cloudy.

Not much went on yesterday. It was too windy to do anything outside that would be connected with the layout so no weathering, painting, stripping, etc. There was a little layout work done but nothing serious. My niece got the carpet put down in both bedrooms of her home yesterday, the kitchen sink went in and all the plumbing is connected. They now have water. My sister is hoping they're out of her house before the end of January. That'll give her another room for storage. I keep telling her she wouldn't need all that storage space if she wasn't such a pack rat but that only gets me a dirty look. Besides, she had a good teacher. My mother turned pack ratting into a fine art and is only now starting work on clearing one of three rooms that are packed floor to ceiling with the junk she's collected over a span of fifty plus years.

Good morning folks

It was 14 F as I tried to head out this morning. Wind chill is 0 F. Our high will be 27 F. We had some icing on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Yesterday things got warm enough that the ice started to melt. With the cold temperatures last night everything refroze including the van doors. It took me about twenty minutes this morning to get into the van. Then when I went to use the drive-up ATM the window would not go down. Just to top this off the zipper on my coat broke. Luckily I could button it. Yes sir, it is a Monday!

We did a bunch of Christmas shopping. I think I about one or two gifts from being done.

I finished adding the couplers and trucks to the P2K stock cars. I also finished assembling the Accurail stock car. I now have five stock cars ready for weathering.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Morning all!

Yeah, after a rather nippy night (-2 with the wind chill down to -25), it's warming up nicely around here! Heck, it's above 0 now! Time to break out the burmuda shorts! (Where's my snorkle and fins?)

Current_Conditions.jpg

The Wind Chill Advisory has been extended until 10:00 for most of the area, but has been dropped for Bloomington, Columbus, and Seymour (the southern areas). The Wind Chill Warning for a few counties in eastern Indiana will remain until Noon.
REST OF TODAY: An area of high pressure will slide towards the state, and lighten up winds, so the wind chill values will improve this afternoon. Temperatures will stay cold, but should manage to hit the mid to upper teens.
TUESDAY: Another storm system out of the southern Plains will race into the state. With cold air still in place, ice could be a problem, especially north of Indianapolis, where a Winter Storm Watch has already been issued. (Makes you feel good when they're already issuing the warning for tomorrow, huh?)

So whats this all add up to?

Today: 16º Sunny, but cold, lighter winds by afternoon

Tonight: 11º Partly cloudy. Still cold.

Tuesday: 35º Wintry Mix. Some snow showers to start. Sleet, ice and freezing rain by the afternoon before changing over to rain.

OK, enough with the weather. It's depressing!

So, has anyone had any Christmas getogethers yet? If so, whaddya get?

We had two yesterday, but they're mostly for the kids. I did get a GPS unit though. I'm thinking that'll work well on my bike. Ya know, trying to read a map on a moving motorcycle is a challenge, and that says nothing about trying to fold it up again! You think it's hard in a car? (Just kidding of course......I ALWAYS know where I am and where I'm going. Just ask my wife, she'll tell ya!)

Well, I best be off!

Cold,,, keep it that side of the pond.
Chris Keep up with the fluids, water if possible, beer will drag you down and give you an even bigger headache. You can't drink to much water, the more you take the better you'll be able to fight off the infection.
Philip Brrrr that sounds cold
