Hi All ! looks like where cooling off here on the Niagara Frontier. Weather coming in from out West . Just a quick note. My son was once diagnosed with ADD . He graduated from college last year Magma-Cum-Laud . So much for it being a hindrance !!!!! Howdy Rex , hope it doesn't get to cold down your way !

It looks like we have one messy day or two coming. We have rain tomorrow changing to sleet and snow, and finally freezing rain overnight into Wednesday morning. Snow I can deal with but ice is impossible. They are saying that tomorrow’s evening commute could be dicey. Hopefully things will be cleared up by Thursday as my wife has an outreach in Bear, DE.

BTW, I hate P2K kits.

Hi guys;

Just sitting here watching the weather. It's just raining here for the moment, and is about 60 degrees. Been watching the Artic front edge ever so slowly down this way.
Its not supposed to come this far and we're gonna be downright warm until the late weekend.

Meanwhile just about 100 miles to my N & NW, there are ice storm watches out! Feel sorry for them.

Talked to my daughter earlier today and it was 25 degrees with sleet and snow in Little Rock. Hope she stays OK!

Got to get some couplers mounted on a couple of switch engines for a friend of mine. Ones an 0-6-0 and the other is an 0-8-0. Both brass. Both very nice.

Well its beginning to rain a little harder, and that's making me sleepy, so I think that I'll go off to bed now.

Good early morning, everyone.

Been a little busy and missed my usual visits. Finally got all the Christmas stuff up. Every year, my wife keeps coming up with a few more things that need batteries or I have find a plug for. :)

CJ, glad you made it back OK. They are getting some bad ice storms just across the line in Tennessee.

Steve, that Tornado video is awesome. Was that a diesel locomotive tacked on the end?

Chris, I need to do a a water and filter change too. I've finally got the tank balanced so there's algae growing but not turning the water green. I think I have enough to support a couple of algae eaters now. I used to have a real aggressive tank with tinfoils, oscars, convicts...all the man ones. They used to eat each other regularly. It got to the point the convict got so big that I couldn't put anything else in the tank with him that wasn't as least as big as him or he thought it was feeding time. The worst fish I had for biting were paku's. They are vegetarian relatives of piranhas but they still have a pretty good set of teeth. They liked the hair on my arm too and were pretty good about darting in a tearing off chunks while I was cleaning the tank.

Phillip, glad to see you got some bike riding time in. I suspect it's about the last until spring though. :(

Paul, congratulations to your son. I'm sure I would have been diagnosed with ADD if they had that when I was a youngster. I was like Jeffrey, couldn't sit still unless I was doing something really interesting. Managed to make it out of college and and hold down a couple of responsible jobs in my life so I wish they would just let kids be kids and stop trying to make life easier for teachers.

Rex, glad you recovered from our invasion. :) I hate shopping and wrapping presents. I got number two daughter a desk she wanted so I first have to wrap the box and then assemble the darn thing. I'm sure it will be E-Z though.

Sandy, weather like that is why I left Cleveland. I'm still not really in a Christmas mood either. Seems like it's just too short a season this year. I'm going to have to take everything down almost as soon as I've got it up.

LTF, that's weird that you've had so many close calls with lightning. There is some evidence that certain people are more likely to be struck by lightning than others but it always non-fatal. There's a famous story of a Park Ranger in the Smokey Mountain National Park that was struck by lightning seven time. It did everything from blow his shoes off to turn his hair white but he was never seriously injured. He finally got transferred to Zion National Park in Utah and was struck again within two weeks after getting there. The poor guy finally committed suicide. :( I've never read a good scientific explanation for this phenomena.

The weather here has done a complete flip-flop. It was in the 40's last week and is now in the 70's. It's still 63 at 0230, awfully warm for December. Our high pressure ridge is just strong enough to keep the Arctic air just north of us so it looks like we will be in 70's most of the week. Other than sweating like a pig putting up the Christmas lights, I'm not complaining compared to most other places in the country. :D

Good morning.

it's 36 and cloudy with light rain. Today's high should be in the mid 40's with light rain continuing.

Yesterday I got my Heinz 57 GP50 put back together and running under DCC control. I also rebuilt one of my old Athearn GP38's . It will be paired up with my SF Kodachrome GP38 in the near future. Went to see the foot doc yesterday. The remnants of the infection that was trying to start before Thanksgiving is gone. That's news I was happy to get.

Good Morning.

Flo get me a big plate of everything. I need some food before I go off and take this final.

I have a math final in an hour. Nothing like bright and early and cold to start a day.

G'Mornin Gang!
Cool rainy morning here on the east coast, with rain expected all week, temps dropping and the weatherman saying we might have to scrape ice by tomorrow a.m.:( It would be a great day to stay in the basement, BUT, the wife hasn't won that Lotto thing yet!
I hope you guys don't mind if I slide my chair over to the left a little. If Sparky actually can eat a plate of everything, those shirt buttons are going to become deadly projectiles and I don't want to get hit!
I'm gonna have to run out today at lunchtime, all this talk of aqauriums and such has got me wanting a couple of filet-0-fish sandwiches! ;)

Good morning all!
Well once again the thermometer reads the same in Celsius as it does in Fahrenheit! Now that's chilly! Looks like another good day to stay in the train room.
All this fish talk reminds me of a cousin who has huge tanks for walls in the basement, pretty cool! I remember all the colors and different types of fish, both fresh and salt water. I also remember how he had "cleaning days" which took up pretty much all his time.
Think I'll stick with my dogs and Laurel's cats. ;)

Good morning folks. Brrrrrrr!! I'm not sure I feel like leaving the house today. I have the perfect excuse not to, I bought my new TV yesterday! I've been waiting to buy a new TV since before I started my failed business. It's been a long time coming. I now have another distraction from the trains. Oh well, I'm waiting for my trestle kit which is coming from Santa. I also need to keep the layout in running condition for the kiddies at Christmas. After Christmas the construction zone continues!

As far as fish go, I like to look at them , I don't want to take care of them though. I've always wanted a salt water tank, but don't know the first thing about them. My brother in-law runs a large pet supply store, and assures me that I am capable of this task. Maybe some day after I buy a house again.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning folks

It was 40 F as I headed onto the accident filled roadways this morning. Apparently 40 is our high since the weather guessers are saying 38 F will be the high. We are expecting one of the Four Horsemen today and his name is snow. It isn’t even snowing and people are spinning out and running into one another this morning.

My daughter wanted to get me something for Christmas. She saw it on Sunday but did not have a coupon for it. We got the coupon last night and went back to the store and of course they did not now have it. The salesclerk told my wife and daughter that the store never carried the item. So we had to go to another store. Store number 2 was sold out of it but they were nice enough to call around and found it at store number 3. So off to store number 3 we went and they got it.

I finished adding the details to the two 2PK Mather stock cars. I can say that I hate P2K kits. They are an exercise in repairing broken parts and frustrations. I still have to put the trucks and couplers on. I got out an Accurail B&O stock car and finished 80% of it in an hour. I still have to add the brake wheel, trucks, and couplers. If I get any more stock cars they will either be RTR or Accurail kits.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Tom,

After putting together my first two P2K kits, a gon and a covered hopper, I felt just like you. I didn't give up though. I just waited two years before I tried again. I recently completed 9 stock car kits. I learned a few tricks along the way and can now complete one in about four hours total work time with only minimal profanity. I'd be happy to share a few tips if you're interested.

Good morning everyone

I see Karl gave you a weather report for the Mid 'Lantic region so I won't repeat that. There's plenty of other stuff to keep my life interesting, such as my 10yr-old daughter has a serious case of the GI's and is "losing it at both ends." Makes it impossible to give her medicine, except via hypodermic needles. So she kept the waking the wife every hour last night, who now has to take the day off from work to get rest and take care of the sick 'un. Probably just as well anyway, given the miserable driving conditions they're predicting for tonight's rush hour.

You guys in MN and Canada (Dan/Corey/Rico) - I don't know how you can stand it this time of year!

Speaking of ADHD - I had it too, when the experts didn't yet have a name for it. The two words that pretty much summed up my teachers' view of me, were "lazy" and "daydreamer".

I was having problems with the radio receiver on my DCC system for the past month. Turns out I was supposed to power it from a wall wart that came packaged with it, I'd been relying solely on the LocoNet. Plugged in the ww and test-ran last night without a hitch - one more problem to scratch off the to-do list!

Afternoon all,

got the redundancy letter today, as of February i'm out of work :( but i also won a bottle of Gin ten mins later in the christmas raffle :)

Good morning everyone

Ken, Its sleeting at work now (11:30 a.m.) Looks like the ride home is gonna be FUN! And me, like a dumb schmuck, drove the car this morning, instead of the truck. 50 series tires and anything thicker than water don't mix well! :(

Hope the daughter feels better soon, not only for her sake but also for Doctor Moms, otherwise you might be fixin dinner tonight! But I'm glad you did the manly thing with the new radio, and just hook it up! It just reinforces the old "If at first you don't succeed, read the friggen directions!" :D;):D

Karl, looks like the sleet let up by the time I got out of that meeting I was in, I didn't see anything on the ground as I walked back to my building. Tuesdays are early-departure days for me, I leave at 2pm so I can pickup my kids from their schools. Vicky normally works 12-8pm on Tuesdays so I'd have been fixing supper tonite anyways. Hopefully the really heavy frozen stuff won't start falling until much later...

Steve, that really SUX about your job - sorry to hear it (I thought you had somehow survived the earlier cuts?)

no chance Ken, this is only the beginning of much worse to come in my opinion. hope you get your Daughter fit and well soon BTW, i can think of nothing worse than that, i have worn vomit from our Matt plenty of times during his projectile vomiting days, LOL glad that all done and in the past.

Steve, sorry to hear the axe got you. I'd like to be optimistic and say that maybe things will get better by February but you and I know that's not going to happen. :( I hope things work out for the best and that you wind up with an even better job. At least you didn't have any money invested with this Madoff guy, like the RBS and a whole bunch of other people who are supposed to be "experts".

Ken, nothing like a sick child to make life even more interesting. Sounds like she's really got a bad bug and I hope she's feeling better soon.

Seems like rotten weather almost everywhere in the country. I don't think I could stand those sub-zero temperatures again. Our low pressure system from the Gulf has been strong enough to give us almost an inch of rain overnight but also to keep the cold air and ice away from us. It's 65 now and the low was only 62. It can get a little warm here in summer but it sure is nice in winter with temperatures like that.
