I don't think it's just the 11 curves. I have 11" radius curves, and run everything from NW2's to Challengers and SD90MACs with no funny noise. Of course, the track has to be perfect, but that's another story.
Sounds like N Scale. I run HO myself. The minimum radius my 6 axle locos will take is 18".

Evening, everyone.

Dan, I'm sure the rain will make its way north eventually. It looks like it will dry out her and get hot by the weekend so that should translate into more rain for you up north. If you have a good used car dealer there, that's the way to go for a near new car. You save the depreciation and cars today will run 200,000 miles with any kind of decent care. Funny you and Jeffrey should mention genealogy. I've been doing our family histoyr for about 10 years and have over 11,000 names now. I'm convinced that, if we go back far enough, we are all somehow related to each other.

BOC, behind a file cabinet is always the best place to look for a lost file. :D I've done it many a time myself. The biggest boat I ever sailed was a 53 foot cat and that baby was more than enough for me and my late wife to handle. Sure was nice to have all that space but getting in and out of tight fuel docks in the Caribbean was a real nail biter. It was a great boat for the Bahamas though since we only had about a four foot draft.

Chris, that picture of the pools looks way more tropical than anything I saw in the Bahamas. I'm not a great amusement park fan but the girls are so maybe we'll try that route next time. I know I'm not going to pay three times as much just to be 50 miles offshore from West Palm Beach again.

Jeffrey, if what my ancestors did influenced what I liked, it would be horses. I have at least three relatives in Ireland that were executed as horse thieves. :) I actually do have a great grandfather, two uncles, and my grandmother who worked for different railroads so maybe thats where it comes from. My Uncle Bill retired as systemwide road foreman of engines from the N&W after starting as a fireman. He was the highest up in the railroads of any of my relatives.

A cloudy, warm, and humid night here in the Heart of Dixie. We had about .75 inches of rain today and should get the same tomorrow. I think we will start into a drying trend by Thursday and will be back into the high 80's and low 90's by the weekend. The high today was only 79, which is like a cold wave for us as we head into June. ;)

Good morning from Ye Olde London Towne.

Jim, welcome back from the hols. Next time you should try Bermuda or even Cuba. (just pretend to be Canadian :D )

Chris, how is your dear lady doing?

As for me, this time tomorrow morning we'll be zipping along the French & Belgian countryside at 300km/h (thats 186mph) on our way to Amsterdam via Brussels for an extra long weekend for SWMBO's birthday and our belated 14th anniversary.

Have a good day all, and a good weekend.

Good mornin' ;)

We'se going to be mainly dull and showery today today. we're even likely going to have t'under boomers as well to liven things up a tad here--:D:D

I've got a few client visits to do today then it'll be off to the LHS to pick up some more paint brushes. He's got a bit of a sale on as well so who knows what'll find its way into the bag---:rolleyes::D:D

Jim Audrey and I did the trip with a couple of friends of ours who owned the dang thing---they are now in the Polynisian Islands--this is their life now. We get regular emails from them as well as calls--:D:D

Jeff All my relatives ended up either in geophysics, geology(rock hunters), musicians, early explorers, drama--theatre, so maybe that's why we're all over the map---:rolleyes::rolleyes:

So people. Have a good one--:D:D:D:D

Good morning.

It's 68 and foggy. The high is expected to be in the high 80's and rain is expected.

No news on my father's condition yesterday. Maybe today. The only work I got done on the layout yesterday was to change out a structure light. There's still lots more cleanup work to be done but it just doesn't seem important right now.

Good morning folks.

Jim, Welcome back from your vacation! I'm sure you had a few good times, they were just clouded over by the bad ones. Vacations are kind of like eating at a restaurant. Sometimes the food is good, but it wasn't forty dollars a plate good. Hawaii was nice for us, but it wasn't twice as nice as Mexico. I imagine you feel the same about your 'upgraded' trip.

Other than a severe tooth ache, I had an enjoyable weekend. I went in for a root canal yesterday only to be told that I have to see a specialist. Great, my insurance only covers half of one of these procedures a year. Not a half root canal, real root canal, and a crown. I think I'm in for about $1500 when it's all said and done! Good thing I didn't buy a car yet.

I planted my trestle this weekend. I'm still waiting for the clay to dry, but I'm almost there. I also ripped up the already layed approach track in order to ease the radius leading onto the bridge.

I have to get the track work finished because my NEW BACHMANN BERKSHIRE ARRIVED! Boy is she a beauty! It was almost sad running it back and forth instead of roundy round like she's destined to do! On a serious note though, it certainly didn't like backing through some of the turnouts. I think the track has shifted since I first layed it. It isn't secured properly yet. I'll definitely have to go over my track work again after I redo this one section.

I have a half day at work before going to the 'specialist'. That will be three and a half days off in four. I'm almost starting to feel guilty......almost.:)

Have a great day everyone!

Just got news about my father. He may be coming home today or tomorrow. They finally figured out what he has. A nasty condition called diverticulitis. I've had it myself, hence why I know it's nasty.

Morning All!

Dan...I bought my last car at the "Lemon Lot" at Fort Bragg (NC) I was living in CO and couldn't find a good car. My brother who was living in NC at the time, checked out the LL on Bragg. Although the "lemon lot" name is a little scary  the lot is simply a place where deployed troops can sell their cars. I bought mine from a guy who was serving in Afghanistan. The paperwork took a bit of doing, but I flew to NC and picked up the car from his wife and drove it home. That was 4 years ago. Until a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't had a bit of trouble with it. :)

Hope everyone has a terrific day!!

Afternoon, everyone.

Andrew, I'd love to dive in Cuba. Everyone I've talked to said it's about the best diving in the Caribbean. Maybe someday when Fidel kicks the bucket and we can all be buddies again. Have fun on your vacation. Sounds like it will be a lot more fun than mine. :) Happy belated anniversary too.

BOC, my late wife and I planned to spend most of our retirement sailing. We had the house sold and were about to buy the boat when she was diagnosed with leukemia. :( That was in 2003 and she died in 2004. I'm a lousy single handed sailor so that put an end to those plans. How I ended up in Alabama, married again with two daughters, is another whole story. I've led an interesting life if nothing else.

Phillip, nice self portrait. :D

Corey, yours is an apt description of our trip. It wasn't all bad, just not worth anything near what I paid for it. I really wanted to see the Mayan archaeological site too so I'm sure that disappointment contributed to my overall bad attitude. But, I'd still rather got back to the Bahamas than have a bad toothache! I hope they at least get you out of physical pain even if the financial pain is hard to bear. The only good thing about costly dentisty is that it can bring up your medical costs enough so you get to deduct some if it on your income tax.

Jeffrey, that's great news that you dad at least gets to be kicked loose from the hospital. As you say, diverticulitis is no fun but a lot better than some of the alternatives.

Sandy, they had the same kind of car lot down in San Diego, where sailors and marines were shipping out during the Vietnam War. I had several friends that were able to pick up some good deals and help out a service member who needed money more than a car. Looks like you guys may be in for some more thunderstorms this weekend.

We are now babysitting a dog, in addition to our four cats. It belongs to Dianna's best friend at church so we had to babysit it while they are on vacation for two weeks. I don't know what kind of dog it is but it's about a month old and appears to be a giant rat with a dog face. Except for Simba, our 17 pound Maine Coon cat, Lulu the dog chases off the other three, even when they are eating. What a bunch of pansies. Simba just pops her one when she gets too playful. We've about reached our livestock limit here at the ranchette. Still warm and humid here although no rain yet since we are getting cut off from the southerly flow by convection along the Gulf. That should change later today and tomorrow as we get a cold front that may kick off a few severe storms. After that, it will get hotter but at least a little less humid.

'Afternoon, everybody!

Haven't had much time to hang out here because of editing and posting the pix of my business district, and participating in discussions about it on the various forums. My MIL was still in the hospital as of this morning, they were going to administer a cardiac electro-shock treatment to try to get her heart beating normally again, because the AF increases her risk of stroke. It was scheduled for 9:00am, hope it went OK, I haven't heard from my wife yet.

Jim - Sorry your vacation turned out to be such a dud, I had one similar to that where everything that could go wrong, did! In fact my wife even wrote a short story about it since it would make a great comedy. Guess stuff like that happens to all of us sometimes.

Jeff - I've heard about that condition, and all I can say is I hope I never get it!

Karl - yeah I'll be there Saturday, go ahead and bring it!

Got2go, I'll check back later - have a good'un!

Me thunks me overdid it this morning. I am helping a very good friend redo a business building he bought recently. Last week I installed new downspouts today was the start of putting a 9' high and 10' wide overhead door between two of the interior rooms. He is using it to work on his own cars and classics instead of being at the body shop where everybody can see and bug him. this building is probably 120' and 60' wide with three rooms and some front office space he is hoping to rent out. Since I am unemployed and looks to be that way for a while it gives me some pocket and gas money. What I need is a job that pays me for staying home and working in the wood shop or on the layout which I have not hardly touched for 4 years. Super Empire Builder, 14ga wire and other DCC accessories are begging for me to get started and so is Glendia. She thinks I have spent to much money on it as it is and by not doing any work on the layout she is a thinking I wasted a whole bunch of money.

Larry, funny you should mention that - it's exactly the kind of "push" that led me to bring my layout from 5% to 90% complete! After I had setup bare benchwork in our 2-car garage and it sat the unused for ~4 years, my wife gave me an ultimatum: Either finish the layout to the point where I could run trains on it, or clear away the benchwork so she could park her car in there. After 7 months of evenings and weekends my trackwork was fully installed and wired, and 10 months after that, I had most of my structures in place. What kept me going was, I would take photos of my progress and share them on the various forums, where the members became like a support group to cheer me on.

Good evenin'

Sheeesh!! Some people throw out things only to find out they needed that "ol' hunk o' junk!!"---Come home t find out that one of our neighbours had to deal with a flooded basement with a bilge pump of all dang things!:eek: Found the big drain pump I have, hooked that thing up, water gone in 20 minutes--:D:D:D I love people who think they know what needs thrown out----when they don't even have a dang clue----:mad:

Larry, Ken Audrey and I egg each other on--she with her painting and me with the layout:D:D:D

Larry, Ken......I'm backwards....I NEED MONEY! I will make time to work on the layout. I can do a lot in short order if I got the material and money on hand! The display thing I'm making has already run into a snag.....Lack of cash flow. If I stall on a project for to long I loose intrest in it and move on....

We had one heck of a storm here today. We got 4 inches of rain in about an hour with almost half an hour of heavy hail on top of that. The largest was marble size with the majority being pea size. My parents pool was down 5 inches this morning and is now 2 inches above the full line. We'll have to pump some of the water out into the lake tomorrow before any chlorine is added. Power was knocked out for several hours and the cable was down for a short time after power was restored.

Last time my wife and I egg each on.......I'm still pulling egg shells out of my skull!:rolleyes:

BTW: Guys my wife is slowly getting better:) she should be almost normal 85 days from now:) Her diet is very tricky, and must be followed to the letter!:( with some of upper intestines gone and a 2/3rd's of her stomach removed she has to have a very special diet from now on......

Ken My layout has its own room, her idea not mine but I readily agreed. I think my grandson will be the one to get me going again all I need is for someone to come out and help me get started installing the Super Empire Builder system. I am not sure on where to start, When I wired up the DC system I had already completed a small layout and the larger one was a natural for me. I started on the DCC system and it did not work, became friustrated and put it back in the box where it now sits. I have taken the (I think it is a DT400 or something like that) controller to a friends layout for an op session and really liked using it,
