Visit to the foot doc went well. I believe we've found the culprit for the mysterious swelling in my lower legs. Lyrica, a pain killer I've been taking for years has been found to cause swelling in a lot cases, even with people who have used it for a long time like myself. He advised me to stop taking it for a while and see what happens, so that's what I'll do. On the home front, I got my parents yard cut this morning as the weather guesser says it's gonna rain for two or three days. That's all I'd need is for the grass to get out of control. Instead of a minor nuisance it would become a major headache, and I don't need any more of those. Speaking of which, anybody know of any highly visible modifications that were made on the GE U30C that don't appear on many models? In case you haven't noticed I like to play around with the unusual.

Whew, long day at work...

Jeffery; sounds like it a good thing they figured out your problem, hope it works out for you, unless of course you don't want to stop taking the pain pills:D

Chris; now that you mention it, drawn and quartered isn't out of the question...

Jim; dude, your actually going to fly in that thing:eek: I didn't know that those were even legal in the US! Just kidding they are pretty nice planes for old Russian stuff, but I did think they were only allowed to be experimental in the US, might have change that rule though...

Well, the wife and daughter are out shopping, I am going to get something to eat them head to the basement and lay some more roadbed. Almost done with that part. BTW, if any of you experts have any opinions or suggestions for a new guy, just let them roll. Here is what I am working on, The layout... I may not change much at this point because I am to far into it, but suggestions from the experts are always welcome.

I guess I am off to poke around the forum a bit while I eat, then if anyone needs me, I will be in the basement...:D:D:D

Tony - I don't actually live in "Bawlamer", I just put that as my location because it's the closest city that people will recognize. My town is Woodstock, ~10 miles west of Baltimore, and ~1 mile from the former B&O [now CSX] Old Main Line.
He's less than a half mile from a former Nike missle site!
He don't glo at night cuz he's caucasian,
He glows at night from leaked radiation!:D:rolleyes:

Karl - I'll have to swing by your place soon and pickup that spare module frame one of these days. (Or maybe you could bring it to the fcsme meeting on May 30?) I'm designing my business district where the buildings and streets won't be permanently attached, so I can also use them on a module if needed.

Cool ! I'll be needing that space on the garage wall soon enough. As soon as the Ranger is fixed, (parts are due tomorrow!) I'm guttin the place and reorganizing! Getting tired of moving junk to get to important things like power tools! (ar, ar, arrrrrr!) ;) I literally have a pickup load of junk steel, nuts, bolts, screws (all used and nasty) plus several old lawn mower engines, smashed gas cans, and empty steel 5 gallon buckets. Plus misc pieces of steel, from 4-5 inches long to 2-3 feet long to get rid of. What can I say, Dad was a packrat! And this doesn't include the plastic, wood, and aluminum stuff that he had saved up. One good thing, I found about 35 brand new oil filters for the truck, plus 16 gallons of Prestone. I still have an area about 10x10, that is full of stuff 5 ft high to drag out and sort. Wonder what I'll find there??????

Jim............That's really an airplane?? I thought Chitty Chitty Bang-Bang had offspring!!! You are a braver man than me. Have fun!!!:)

Chris......did you say top shelf liquor????????????
I'll be back later,,,,,,gotta pack!!

Chris, Neither my wife nor I drink so you're going to have to bring your own booze. I do have a nice grill out on the deck with an extra propane tank in the garage. You just have to promise to clean the thing up when you're done, not leave it in the same mess you left at Rex's. The track was just cleaned and the layout is running great. NO RIBS over the layout this time. Also, NO SLEEPING ON THE POOL TABLE! I know how you guys are when you get a little booze in you. I'm not responsible for any injuries if you decide to play darts in the basement either. Those points are really sharp so keep them away from Larry if you value your eyesight. Rex is a pretty tough guy so I'll leave him in charge. You can have all the fun you want, JUST DON'T WRECK THE PLACE! Unlike Rex's, I don't have a watering tree, so use the john and don't gross out my neighbors. :)

Jim,jim, jim, I know you have booze! Telling us there isn't any there will just have to search harder fer it! Rex, is like a blood hound when it come to top shelf stuff! Can't promise there won't be a mess.........I wouldn't worry about the trees or the neigbors........we're going to be throwing darts at them!

Good Evening ppls!!!:D:D:D

Did not get on this morning b/c of all them dang thunderstorms still be tripping through this morning!!:eek:--we got about 3" of rain just from the last two that came barreling through right after each other. Didn't last long but sheesh!!---now it is all sunny----for now---

Had an interesting day. Got to work to find two boxes full of documentation for a seminar that a colleague was to have done a couple of weeks ago that was cancelled at the last moment due to his getting called into the ministry at his church---he had his ordination but-----anyway, I said that I could do it for him and this was what was dumped on my desk! So, I'm gonna need to do some Office related stuff and see what can be done with these things so that they're a little more doable----:):):)

Chris I see the party is at a good time!!----I'm gonna need it!!;):D:D:D

Jim Try not to think about THAT thing down there----it may veer off:D:D:D We'll see about getting the place back in some sense of order----y'never know though--:eek:;) BTW, where did you find that plane ?--HHMMM?

Ken Oh, another Woodstonian. and don't tell me you say you are a Woodstockian.:D:D:rolleyes: I used to live in Woodstock ON---have a sister who still lives there still.:D:D

Jeff At least the foot thing is getting somewhere! Hope it gets better for you.:):)

I'm going back into my box--I mean---Trainroom--yeah that's it ---trainroom-----what was I thinkin':rolleyes::rolleyes:

WHOPPEE! I LOVES A PAR-DY! YEE-HA!
CHRIS, I will try to chase down and lasso some of the BAMA Cheerleaders and bring'um down with me. I want some fun like you guys had at my place. Can't wait to play cars and trucks in Jim's downtown area.:rolleyes:

Jim: Be sure and lockup your gun cabinet. We don't want the "bares" to run away. Oh sorry, we are suppose to play trains...but nothing like bare hunt along the right-of-way or over at Busty Bertha's. :D

Jeffrey, I forgot to add that Lyrica really is a bad thing for you to take. Swelling is a well known side effect as is lack of eye-hand coordination. I think you'll do a lot better off it, especially since its efficacy for use with peripheral diabetic neuropathy is not well established. If you haven't tried it, tramadol, known by the brand name Ultram, is a mild narcotic pain reliever and has been shown to offer better pain relief than the anticonvulsant drugs like Lyrica. Neurontin is another possibility in the anticonvulsant class drugs with less annoying side effects.

Chris, I'm not kidding, there's no booze on the house, Neither me or my wife can drink because we both have Meniere's Syndrome. Alcohol is one of the triggers and makes me get vertigo and vomit for about eight hours straight. There is an ABC store about two miles from the house so y'all will have to bring some money down for booze. My neighbor on the left is an FBI agent so I wouldn't be throwing darts at him. The one on the right is a scumbag doper so throwing darts at him is OK as long as you hide behind some trees so he can't see the darts coming.

BOC, the highest probability is that the low won't develop although it's looking stronger tonight. I'll just keep thinking good thoughts. The plane is a Russian model that's still in use today in a lot of third world countries. As Tony said, it's not legal for commercial use here but the Polish variant is and it's used by some air freight companies and skydiving outfits. It's the biggest single engine biplane ever built and will carry 22 pasengers in typical Soviet-style comfort. We're actually flying out in an RJ100, a much more comfortable jet. However, given how much grief the two girls have given me, it's my turn to have a little fun with them.

Dan, gas grills aren't as nice as real charcoal for grilling. OTOH, since half of you will be plastered half the time, it would probably be easier to get it going than playing with lighter fluid and matches. BOC, I don't think you want to find out what happens to a propane tank while shooting at it. Actually, keep the shooting down to a minumum since the guy behind me can't take a joke and tends to call the cops if he hears too many gunshots.

Rex, you are more than welcome to play cars and trucks in downtown. It would probably be more fun than operating my dinky layout. I'm going to make sure that all the guns are locked in the safe since you're going to be bored after about an hour and you know what happens when you get bored. Please tell the cheerleaders to take home ALL their thongs with them this time. I'm never going to be able to convince Dianna that some of my train friends left them behind. I do have a nice whirlpool tub in the master bedroom but try not to splash water all over the place while you're chasing the girls or at least wipe it up when you're done. Wives notice water stained walls. :)

Oh, yeah, I do have a security system for the house that will be set so you need to know the code. It's the value of Pi to the 32nd significant digit. You have 10 seconds to enter it before Prattville PD is notified. You can do it as long as one of you is really good at entering numbers fast on a keypad. I'd practice before you get here. The Metro Jail is hurting for money and the PD arrests just about anyone they run across...well, except for the people they shoot. They get a little trigger happy at times. :D

Janette would never lift a hand to hurt me!
She'd Hire some one to hurt me!:rolleyes:
Chris, I thought I'd let you know...
Janette sent me an extra $50 this month to help me remember where y'all live. If you send me $100, I'll be sure to forget again...

Seriously, I hope the surgery goes well. Are they going to install bags, or just remove and stitch back together?

Good morning.

It's 69 and partly cloudy. The high should be in the high 80's with a chance of thunderstorms.

The visit to the foot doc yesterday was uneventful, in fact I almost fell asleep in his office. I've been wondering about what modifications I could make on my Atlas GE U30C. I'm not a U-boat fan so this is the only one I have. I'm looking for something that will set it apart from most others. Anybody can have the ordinary and mundane. I prefer things that tease you into taking a closer look before hitting you right between the eyes. While the model I have already has a couple of modifications they're things that wouldn't stand out except maybe to a rivet counter, such as U33C end rails and a horn from an SD24. I want to add something that makes a statement without bordering on the ridiculous. Yeah, I can hear the snide remarks already. I would prefer not to have to deal with those.

Jeff, have you ever seen pics of Karl's FU-2? That's certainly different from the norm...(sorry, don't remember the link to it, maybe Karl will help us out...?)

Tgif!!!

Well folks, it's Friday! Get through this day and take a couple off, sounds good to me...:D

Finished up the roadbed on my to main loops last night, now I just need to do the turnouts and spurs, plus a small yard area. Then I can get to running some trains and see how al this works out. We are suppose to have a lot of rain Saturday so I might be able to finish up the turnouts and spurs some time Saturday, at least that is the plan for now.

Hope everyone has a great Friday!!!:D:cool:

Last night was not a good night.

Went out with the guys for a "cruise" (I kept it legal though). Had a late night dinner. Then we went to walmart, where I did actually purchase something. In the meantime, someone had decided it funny to stick a key between the parking lot and my tire, leaving me with a flat. Ran back to walmart to get a jack and tire iron (I didn't have either, and my friends' jacks were not working with my car).

And also somehow I have managed to REALLY mess up my foot. I didn't really sleep at all because of how bad it hurts. I am going to go to the doctor later in the morning.

Good morning folks

It was 62 F and wet when I left this morning. High today will be 79 F.

We had a rather nasty thunderstorm roll through last night around 11 PM. It had plenty of lightening and heavy rain. The rain lasted for about 2 hours.

My daughter comes home from camp today. We also have my son’s guitar lesson tonight. It will be a busy weekend. We have the usual biweekly restocking of the cupboards to do. Saturday morning my son’s Boy Scout troop has a service project at a local cemetery. They will be helping clean-up the green house. On Sunday of the weather is OK we are going to head up to Dorney Park. They are having a Scout Appreciation Event this weekend.

Maybe I can begin weathering some cars this weekend.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning people!!

We're at 11C this morning going to a high of 21C by this afternoon. It's going to cloud up and begin getting showery by this evening with the possibility of T'storms thrown in for good measure. By Sunday it will be Sunday it will be cloudy with the high at 10C then by Thursday of this coming week we'll be at 28C!!;);):D:D:D

Jim I've seen propane tanks blow up before---they blow'd up really good!!:eek:;);)---actually this happened at a jobsite I was working at---some guy doing some welding, sparks let fly---ol' propane storage tank that was thought to have been emptied had a leak---BOOM!!!:eek::eek:--sent the top of it somewhere else!! Luckily, no one was hurt but it did get certain mgmt types thinking of actually doing things a little differently---like doing it the right way instead:eek::eek::D:D:D----as far as BBQ goes---sometimes a good ol' firepit will do just as nicely---do a nice sized Side of Beef in a real slow fashion------YUM!!:D:D:D:D

I have today off so I now have a 4 day holiday!!:D:D:DHopefully this translates into some MRR'ing time---ahem--cough cough :rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D:D

Have a good one :D:D:D

It would seem the decoder install for the U30C will have to wait. I've been through all the accessible boxes in the closet but I was unable to locate the decoder I had intended to use. Looks like that project is pushed to the back burner until I can order a new decoder. What with car repairs and payment commitments to other modelers it may be two or three months.

How'bout some lunch fellows! A hot roast beef sandwich would be great with some (unsweetened ;)) ice tea.

Still waiting on my porch roof estimate. Hopefully, I will know something in the next few days.

While cleaning leaves and stuff out from the bushes around the house, I started finding pieces of roofing shingles. OH CRAPPO! I climbed up on the roof and found at least 30 shingles that have been broken in different areas. My neighbor said he saw many of my shingles flopping in the winds and thought my whole roof was coming off. Seems the high winds and storms that have been coming through did more than I thought. State Farm Ins. said they would send someone out for look-see. Any of you had any experience dealing/arguing with insurance companies for roof damage? I sure don't want a speckled roof with a patch job. Any hints on dealing with them would be appreciated.

CU later
