Mornin' guys, hmmm most of us must be sleeping in:)

Well I did not get any work done on the layout last night. By the time I got the yard mowed, I did not feel much like messing around with roadbed, so i just tested some engines and cars on the two main loops. Went pretty well with the exception of a few trouble spots. Just a bit to much solder in those areas, easy enough to fix.

It is suppose to rain all day here so i will try to finish up my road bed today and then work on fastening down the track to get ready for my first attempt at ballasting.

Bob; What kind of bike do you have? That's pretty funny about your cat. Wish it would happen to ours:D I'm not really a cat hater, just the one that lives here. He is getting old and I swear he is getting senile. He just bothers the heck out of me. The thing I hate most is he has become very lazy. He will actually scratch at the front do to get in, then you let him in and he will walk through the house tot he back door and then scratch to get out the back door. Drive me nuts and these days that is a short drive for me.:D:eek::D

Well am going to have a couple of cups of coffee then head down tot he basement. So that's where I will be if anyone needs me...:D

Oh yeah, Andrew, we haven't met yet, I am Tony, pretty new around here and to the hobby. Sorry to hear abot that gout thing. My dad had that stuff said it can be painful at times. Good luck with it, I think some diet restriction are in your future. Hey, see ya around...

See you guys later...

Top of the mornin to all. Yesterday was a very busy day. Started off my sanding the joint compound in the soon to be repainted kitchen. Being unemployed is a lot harder than I ever remember it being. The honey do list is humongus and it still growing. I better find myself another job before I go broke, oh wait I am not spending any money Glendia is doing all of the money outputing but working me like a borrowed mule. Then out came the weedwacker which I really hate. That is a dirty job and it really make the shoulders hurt. Three hours on the Kubota mowing all four yards was the easiest part of the day. When I mow I usually mow in different directions, roundy round clockwise and counterclockwise, then back and forth and diagonally both angles and even once in a while start in the center and just keep mowing as the circles keep getting bigger. I really like the looks of different patterns and I think it mows better than using the same direction all of the time. Finally I got the old Snapper walk behind out and mowed the roadside and under the trees the Kubota will not get under. Started the weadwacker at noon and finished mowing around 5:30. We went to the local Steak & Shake burger joint for supper and had a very good double burger and fries. Today it is more sanding and hopefully primer day for the drywall and maybe even a little of the yellow paint so the fridge cam get back out of the middle of the floor. I will never ever ever put up wallpaper again as long as I live and Glendia agrees as she did a lot of the stripping of the wallpaper we took off. All kinds of scars and gouges in the drywall that I had to repair but the walls are going to be looking good when finished. Better get my butt in gear. Hi Ho! Hi Ho it's off to work I go.

Good morning --

Got the ol' t'underin' boomers going through pretty much most of today. We must of had about 3 of 'em come through last night---left a lot of rain for us---back yard now has a lake---not a pond. I'm going to make up a floating dock for our backyard.:rolleyes::rolleyes::eek::) Oh well. Temperature for today has our high going to 18C then down to 2C for a low and only 10C for tomorrow--under clouds. A classic holiday weekend for us don't you know..:rolleyes:

We're doing the running around thing today--doing food shopping and all that there fun stuff. We tend to run into a lot of people we know on these days which tends to make for a long shopping session. Audrey has to get her hair done at some point as well;) So much for MRR'ing today---:rolleyes:

Flo---I'll try what Bob was trying----it might help in waking this puppy up:D:D

Sounds like a lot of work there Larry. Believe me, I know what it's like to be unemployed. I was medically retired in 2004 and haven't had a steady job in 5 years, just some short contract jobs with the local Sheltered Workshop. If it wasn't for SSI I wouldn't be able to pay the bills. Getting out to mow my parents yard once every week or so and having the layout to work on keeps me from going up the wall. I know what sanding that joint compound and drywall is like. Been there and done plenty of it. I used joint compound on my layout extension and it worked out pretty good. The walk behind mowing and weed whacking sound like fun:D. Glad I can't do either of them. My doctor gets mad enough as it is that I drive a tractor to mow the yards. My parents new Yardman ride-on is more comfortable than the old Peerless tractor but it takes longer cutting 46" at a time than cutting 60" does. I know it's not that much wider but it cuts an hour off the mowing time.

Larry My lawn--such as it is --only took me about a 1/2 hr. That is b/c we have most of our property either under water, like today, or, under a cottage garden. Now, if you want to look into that----:rolleyes:

Get a front end loader and box blade units for it and that tractor will earn it's keep!

Remember, I got's you all beat!;):D Although I get payed:D

Chris: Seriously, my thoughts and prayers to your wife and I wish her a quick recovery.
(It still baffles me how she will recover with a nut like you around. Poor woman! Maybe your loving SIL needs to come over and take care of her.....:D:D:p)

MY SIL and my sister are pure EVIL! Crap, my SIL is a RN and i wouldn't want her in the same hospital as my DOG! and My sister would sit there and watch you die before she would raise her hand to WORK! Trust me I'll do way more than anyone......and a better job too!:) Remember Fathers day is comming:D

BTW: Guys thanks for your Prayers and concerns for my wife and family we need it!

Good morning folks.

This place has sure been busy this week. I have been running ragged at work, so no modeling or even reading about modeling.

Since buying my new TV, I have been waiting to give my old one to my mother. This thing ways a ton. It's a 36 inch Sony Vega weighing in at 289 pounds! It's so awkward to move, that only two people can do it. To add to it, two thirds of the weight is in the front, so one of your arms is supporting all of the weight and the other is just steadying the load. I would keep the TV, but I never want to move it again. I think my 52 inch Sony weighs 89 pounds. I have to deliver this beast to my Mom's lake house two hours away and move it into the basement. Next time this things moves it will be in tiny pieces!

After the moving is over, I will get reacquainted with my pool table which is already there. That and my good buddy Mich Golden! My mother is the recipient of any furniture or toys that I no longer want or have room for. It should be a good night after the slave labor.

I wish all of you well with your health and happiness.
Have a great weekend!

Chris I was merely explaining to Larry about our wonderful sitchimacation here wherein I do not have a large lawn:p--our property ain't that large to begin with!! LOL!!:D:D:D I use a push mower--no motor--so I get the exercise spiced up with being out'n the green stuff and all that---:D:D:D

Besides, cottage gardens need a lot of work to get them going right off the bat. Heeheehee--:D:D:D

Now, the lake OTOH-----:rolleyes::rolleyes::eek:

Well, sounds like you all have plent of stuff going on.......especially Larry!

I've got a pretty busy day today too. I've got lots of boring speeches to listen to, some handshaking to do, and a whole lot of smiling for pictures. Yup, it's graduation day. I get my degree today, and all the hoopla that goes with it. Gotta do the whole cap & gown thing, moving the tassel, speeches, everything. Should keep me on the run for most of the day.

You all go about your day, and know that, while I want my degree, I'd probably rather be doing whatever you're doing!

Jeffery"the old Peerless tractor but it takes longer cutting 46" at a time than cutting 60" does."
Yes I k can tell abig difference between the old 12 horse Kubota and this new 18 horse. The old one had a 48" mower but you could only use about 2/3rds of it or the cut was really crappy. The new one has a 54" cut and you can use the whole shamolee. My mowung time was cut in half except when the weedwacker and walking mower have to come out which is usually every two to three weeks.

Visit to the foot doc went well. I believe we've found the culprit for the mysterious swelling in my lower legs. Lyrica, a pain killer I've been taking for years has been found to cause swelling in a lot cases, even with people who have used it for a long time like myself. He advised me to stop taking it for a while and see what happens, so that's what I'll do. On the home front, I got my parents yard cut this morning as the weather guesser says it's gonna rain for two or three days. That's all I'd need is for the grass to get out of control. Instead of a minor nuisance it would become a major headache, and I don't need any more of those. Speaking of which, anybody know of any highly visible modifications that were made on the GE U30C that don't appear on many models? In case you haven't noticed I like to play around with the unusual.
How about one of those alternating roof beacons like SP had? I know they're out there, I had one on an Athearn SD45-2. It worked, too. I know the Squaw Creek had such a beacon on their U33C.

The Peerless is the one with the 60" cut. It has a 19 horse V-twin and can utilize the entire width of the cutting deck. It can cut down 24" inch tall grass without too much of a problem. The new Yardman has a 46" cut and a 17 horse 1 cylinder engine and bogs down in high grass (4" or more).

I wouldn't by a tractor unless it was twin cylinder and more than 20hp :) You need touq in thick tall grass! I think Larrys tractor is the bomb though, you can get attchments for any job you want to do in your or any one else yard! I want larrys KUBOTA With the frontend loader and box blade, perfect machine for sod jobs and flower bed installs!

I love my Husqvarna 2348, 23 HP, 48" cut and will knock down tall grass better than the Toro 72" 29 hp ZTR we have at the park! I put 80 hrs on my mow(Commercial) and yet to have a problem:) I wish I could say that for the TORO at the park! I just wish my tractor had posi lock diff and split brakes like a full size tractor!

Afternoon, everyone.

Congratulations, Phillip! I know you worked hard on that degree. I'm sure you'll miss going to school. :)

Bob, we've had all kinds of thunderstorms around us but nothing that ever got too close. Still lots of instability today but we seem to be stuck in a dry slot. Your poor cat! Strangely enough, lightning and thunder don't seem to bother my four. They actually like to sit in the window and watch the storms. Now, fireworks, on the other hand...

Andrew, sorry to hear about the gout diagnosis. My dad had it too so I can expect some problems in my future I suppose. There's not much evidence that most dietary changes have any effect on gout. The big one that does is alcohol. Either avoid it completely or limit it to no more one ounce per day. Alcohol is a powerful inhibitor of uric acid excretion, which will lead to the build up of the urate crystals that cause the severe joint pain in gout.

Tony, run the heck out of your trains - all of them - for a few days before you do any ballasting. You can find and fix track problems a lot better when there's nothing else in the way. Don't ask me how I know this. :)

Larry, whether being retired or just unemployed, your wife thinks you are her hired mule and works you as such. I'm lucky to get 15 minutes without hearing "Oh, dear, can you help me with..." whatever has floated to the top of must-do, right now, I'm not kidding list.

BOC, I think you should run out now and get some catfish. They grow fast and you can harvest them as the lake dries up. They bring a pretty good price and taste good too if you just want some relatively free protein. Any leftovers can be used as fertilizer in the cottage garden. ;)

Corey, a 289 pound TV?!!. Whatever possessed you to buy such a beast to begin with? You are now condemned to cart that thing around from relative to relative as punishment.

Man, a lot of you guys have an unnatural interest in tractors and grass cutting. All that nasty cutting and edging and gets done for me every Monday morning by a guy with some kind of giant mower and his assistant with some kind of giant edger. I really enjoy watching them from my air conditioned house.

Chris, I've alerted the community to keep an eye out for a tanned guy that wants to inspect your lawn tractor. I've let them know you're a fugitive from justice in Florida and not to be afraid to plug you one if you put up any resistance. I'd just be real cooperative since some of the boys have real itchy trigger fingers.

Running around like crazy trying to get everything packed for our biplane ride tomorrow. I know I'll forget something but I think they sell things in the Bahamas. That low off Cuba looks like it won't develop into much more than a tropical wave. We will probably get some rain and wind out it on Tuesday but nothing too bad. There's actually a bigger and more ominous looking storm further north in the Atlantic that should become Tropical Storm Anna by next week. I think (hope) it will stay too far north to bother us. If I can keep the girls mostly in the water and out of the casino, I think I should be able to make it back without being completely broke.

Well, all. I need another of what I had last night, Flo. Only stronger.

The "crew" just left a bit ago. Today was one of those days where not much went right. I think we regressed and didn't progress an inch. We did get some structures placed and the sidings for those located and marked. Slung some plaster cloth. Did a bit of weathering.

But, it was raining, and the high humidity wasn't letting anything dry. Some of the ballasting continues.

And we placed the turntable and got it up and running. I had a 90-footer laying around that wasn't being used since I got my 135-footer. Once I got it placed and wired in, the work stopped. Everyone wanted to play with the turntable. Like a bunch of kids at Christmas.

The DCC system we thought was being donated, ended up on eBay. I think we have another, but am not sure yet. Still have a couple of guys that said they were donating a system, but haven't heard from them lately. I may just go out and buy a Zephyr, or Empire Builder. It's only money and I can't take it with me. Just spend the daughter's inheritance.

By the way, the cat is looking a little better. The smoke has stopped coming from his ears. He's still a bit jumpy and has this facial tick. And he continues to walk sideways. If he recovers the same as last time, he will be OK in a couple of weeks.

Gotta go for now. Chow is on the table. Call me anything you want, just don't call me late for a meal.

Bob
