Phil, we are talking Nashville, Indiana? I rode a BICYCLE several times in the "Hilly Hundred" around that area. That was a killer. Sure couldn't do it now unless I did it on a cycle. Beautiful ride for sure.

Bob

Evening guys!
All this talk about cutting grass, and I sit inside today looking at what I cut Thursday, needs mowing again already!!!!! And with 3 days of rain ahead of us, it looks like it's gonna be ugly before the sun returns on Wednesday!
Booooooo!!!!!!!!!:(
I can't wait til August, when it all turns brown! This is cutting into my basement time!!!
Dan, Burgundy??? Wait til you hit middle age or beyond, and anything BUT gray is acceptable!:D
Ken Want some authentic Baltimore Belgian block?? I have some left over from the back Patio paving. They originally came from Charles Street in Balto. You may have to cut them in little tiny pieces, but hey, the price is right! :D:rolleyes:
Corey Bowling and Beer!!! I used to do that often.....3 games of Tenpins,,followed by 1 game of Duckpins......after tossing a 16 lb tenpin ball, the poor duckpin ball flew half the length of the alley !!!!!!!!:D

Time for a nap now,,,,,the grandboys were here today,,me and the cat have both about had it!!!!:D

I'm sorry.....yes, Indiana! I forgot, there is ANOTHER Nashville, isn't there? It was a beautiful ride......and there were a TON of bikes ("cycles") out today! Great riding with a nice leather on. Wouldn't want to peddle it though.....WAY too much work! They'd find me dead of a heart attack on the side of the road!

Good evening

It's been a mostly wet weekend around here. If I would've known there was going to be a 5-hour stretch of dry weather between downpours on Saturday, I would have mowed my lawn. I didn't have a clue that it was going to be raining thru Tuesday, and besides, I was too busy waiting for my boy to get home with the car so I could get to the LHS and pickup my Cornerstone Street system. As usual, what I first thought would be a 1- or 2-hour ended up taking me all of Saturday evening and most of Sunday...and I'm still nowhere near finished! Who'd have ever thought something so simple as a city street could be so complex!?

Jim - I'd love to be able to do some brick streets, but I'm not doing Baltimore, and I don't think a street leading into a steel mill - with lots of heavy truck traffic - would still be paved with brick. Some of Baltimore's "gentrified" blocks have been re-paved with brick, but I'm definitely not modeling that kind of neighborhood...!:D

Jeff - I remember something like that happening with me when I was in the Navy, stationed in Norfolk VA. I hit a bump on this one really crappy road and it broke off the bottom mounting bracket of my left rear shock absorber. I wanted to sue the public works dept., but my friends said I'd be wasting my time, apparently they were "immune" from being sued ; everybody just traveled the local roads at their own risk. Sounds like your local gov't has a more responsible attitude.

Corey - glad you found some "quality" time to spend working on your layout!

Phillip - sounds like you had a totally refreshing bike trip.

Karl I see you've got the same problem with your grass that I do with mine: it grows like a TUMOR! My neighbor really pampers his lawn, treats it with all sorts of chemicals - and it stays looking great all week long. Doesn't grow nearly as fast as mine does --- I'm totally envious! I'm just glad I don't live in one of those "covenant" neighborhoods, like in Columbia, where they slap a fine on you if your grass gets over 6" tall.

. . .

Gotta get up early again tomorrow, g'nite!

Coffee here, Flo.

Anyone have one of those weekends when it seems as though you were busier than a cat covering up poop on a marble floor, and when you look back late Sunday night, it seems that you didn't get a thing accomplished. I just had one of those.

Gorgeous two days. We took a cruise to the Reservoirs today(Salamonie, Mississinewa, and Roush). About a 4-hour ride around. Mowed the yard, cleaned the boat for couple of hours. Played with the two Boston Terriers. Wiped down the bike. Worked on the nursing home's layout for a bit. Went to a train show swap meet Saturday(spent too much, as usual). I did get some good deals though. Bought a whole box of Atlas FlexTrack, Code 100, for $32. And some unassembled Athearn Blue Box cars for $2.50 each. I did have to buy 20 of them though. I also finally found a set of NKP passenger cars. Set me back $75 but, I've been looking for a L-O-O-O-ONG time for some. These are custom painted and look like they came from the factory. Whoever did them up did a fantastic job. Got a couple of new steam engines, a C&O F3A&B(Proto 2000) and another P2K E8 Wabash.

Well, 'nuf for now.

Bob

Howdee folks. Went back to the model train show again today to see if they had any more $89 IM SD40T-2s left, and they had 6 SP + Cotton Belt locomotives, so I came home with another one, SP 8363 and a few more freight cars. A Walthers N 50' UP Bulkhead flat, a Athearn 57' Mech reefer painted for WFE, a NOM Intermountain Covered hopper and a Trans Corp. of America from Atlas.

Tell me about it!:(:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Not to fear, hurrican season is near!:):D:rolleyes::eek::p

Good time to start trimming trees and getting them topped!

Good morning.

It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be around 83 and it will be partly cloudy.

Looked at the road damage to the bottom of my car yesterday. Looks like one of the power steering lines was torn open. Looks like the low pressure line. That means it can be easily fixed. Problem is I can't get at it until I can get the car over a pit or a ditch. Being that the ditch is the more practical choice (and the closest) I'll have to wait for it to dry out some. We got about four days worth of rain in ten hours yesterday so the ditches were running level with the roads for a while and in some places the roads were underwater. I did a little more work on the covered hopper and made it a little grimier. Looks like I may be mowing my sisters yard today. Her mower still won't start. As for what else I'll be doing today, it's an open book. I'll know when I get there.

I'll post some picks of it when we're finished:) and had to take the rear wheel of my MTB in to the LBS from damage from last Tuesdays ride! I landed funny from a jump and busted a spoke and put a slight bend in the rim:eek::rolleyes: good thing it happend on my way home from my ride and it happend close to home:):o My town is nothing but hills:eek: I'm up to 14 miles on hilly roads and no waking up dead in a ditch from a heart attack!:D:D:D

Good morning folks.

I went ahead and started to lay ground foam. I've realized that Hobby Lobby is going to get a whole bunch of my money this week! I have plenty of fine turf, but I need bushes, underbrush, etc. For trees I ordered Super Trees from Scenic Express. So far the variation of color, size, and texture has been good. It's just nice to make it look like something is starting to grow! I should have some pretty fun pictures to show next week.

I have another long day at work today. It's the final wrap up from prom. Now I get to check the tuxedos in and return the store to a Men's clothing store. We've been a formal wear store for a few weeks which means messy store!

I can't wait for tomorrow. The vegetation planting continues!

Have a great day!

Good morning folks

It was 52 F and raining as I headed out this morning. High will be 57 F with more rain. It has been raining since Saturday night. If the weather mis-forecasters are right the only dry day this week will be Wednesday.

It has been a couple of busy crazy days since I was last able to post. At work my boss is out on leave with surgery. Even though we planned things out Friday, her first day off was complete chaos. It seemed like everyone didn’t believe she would be off even though she had announced it for the last two weeks. Today, so far, is calmer, although very shortly I am about to stir up a hornets’ nest to find out why a project is now two weeks overdue.

At home it was mow the lawn, edge the lawn, and trim the fence lines before the rain began on Saturday. We also had to throw in the bi-weekly grocery store excursion. On Sunday we had to visit the Lego Store in the King of Prussia Mall. My son is having his birthday party there Friday and my wife wanted to pick-up the kits for the boys to build during the party. While there we saw a display from the Pennsylvania Lego Users Group. It was a PRR steam loco and PRR flat car. There was also a photo of a very impressive layout.

The real weekend fun, however, came later Sunday after we got home. We had a heavy downpour and one of the gutters decided to start running backwards and dumping its water onto the front door. Or course some of the water got through the cracks. I now had go up the ladder in the rain and unclog the downspout. So while I had the ladder and hose out and was thoroughly soaked I cleaned the other gutters in the front of the house.

No modeling. Maybe soon?

I hope everybody has a good day.

Afternoon Folks.

Well, I am feeling great. I just got 14 hours of sleep, waking up and 25 minutes ago. I have really been needing it. I have been missing a lot of sleep trying to finish up things for the semester. Hopefully I didn't miss anything TOO important today.

No modeling yet. A week from now, I will have all the time in the world to keep on working. I have to get some paint and stuff to weather a couple kits. Also have to think about if I want to do interior detail on them or not.

Hi gang! Just reporting in for duty.
We got back from our camping yesterday, about 30 minutes before the storms rolled in. Had a wonderful time catching fish, doing little, and meeting fellow campers from all over. Main thing: the wife is content with her vacation being well used ;):D.

Nothing like coming back home and having things not work when you turn them on. This computer was using 100% CPU with nothing (obvious) running. Finally cleared that up by removing and then reloading the anti-virus program. The Hot Tub circulation motor won't start. I still have to see what I can do with it. The darn pump impeller is probably froze up.

Haven't had time to read up on everything yet, but will check the past happenings and get back later.
CUL :)

We's back!! I took off this afternoon from Woodstock, went to friends place just north of Thamesford ON and now----tada!! HERE!!! so there---

Jim I seen a report from a buddy of mine who works in the financial field. This report was pretty much a summary of what you posted but for one thing---demand for more and bigger houses and such was artificially influenced by what those in upper classes did---their houses got bigger--more middle class got into the McMansions and on and on. It went the same with cars as well---and all kinds of things. He suspects that one of the things needed now is to bulletproof the middleclass --such as it is/will be---by boosting the values that held them in good stead through the rough times. Me--I just keep on----:eek::confused:

Had a good weekend--ran into some former bandmates and did one of those test the water gigs to see if we can still do what we did well. Sold the place out and did the thing well. Mind, we were not your usual band---more like Hawkwind, Magma, Sun Ra's Arkestra, a lot of that trippy stuff. I was quite surprised that people even remembered some of our own pieces!!:eek:

I'm getting stared at by the 'Spring' fellow---it seems he wants food--:):)

Gorgeous, gorgeous day today albeit a tad cool for my tastes. I prefer the temp around 80 or so. Didn't quite make that today. 60's seem a bit cool when out on the boat(s).

Well, my project for day was to complain about how busy I was all weekend and it seemed as if nothing was accomplished. Angela pointed out that much got done. Well, her "honey-do" stuff got done, my projects seemed to lay fallow. And we did start on the summer tan. The bike ride left us both a bit RED. And my eyes are still dry.

Heading out fishing tomorrow. Hopefully the mudline has moved downstream in the reservoir. I may head below the dam for walleye instead of crappie. Both are great table fair. Gonna bank fish instead of taking a boat out. The "knocker" is a 14-foot 1963 Lone Star with a 5 1/2hp 1958 Evinrude and is real easy to launch. The problem is the ramps are like trying to drive up a flag pole. Steep is an understatement. And LONG too.

Anyhoo, tomorrow evening I'll dedicate myself to the nursing home layout. I've received packages from Ken, and Karl. Thank you very much fellas. Your generosity humbles me. There were a couple of guys on a rival forum that sent a few things too. Still waiting on Jim's donation.

boc, you play? I've played guitar since age 6. 50 years. Studied the axe in the classical style. Still love playing the blues though. Power blues is the cat's meow. We had a local band here in the 70's and 80's that seemed to land everyone that was between groups. We had a reunion of sorts last year. Over 25 old members participated. I reunited wit ha couple of my "regular" buddies. We have been doing the odd gig since. We hooked up with our old keyboard player and a couple of the singers. We used to be a Rush cover band back when. Funny how playing is like riding a bicycle. We were a bit rusty but that rubbed of like dust. The timing came back like we had never separated. In fact we play in Merrillville this Thursday night. We haven't practiced in a month. lol We'll be OK, I'm sure. Sound check is Wednesday. The club has an open mic night on Wednesdays so we'll just warm up then.

Well, I need to get to work on weathering and painting structures on the nursing home layout.

'Night all.

PS. I'm looking for another cheap(but good) airbrush setup, including compressor. Anyone have any recommendations? It's a bit tedious running inside from the wood shop every time I need to airbrush something.

Bob

I thought your computer was kinda slow when I was using it:( and Ya, I was going to tell ya about your Hot Tub:( I told the BOC not to shave his legs in the hot tub! Sorry for the chips on the layout:o Ken is a slob when it comes to the chips:) Hey as for the BBQ sauce on the layouts controllers well that was Jim! He said it's hard to eat ribs and run trains:o
The beer bottle all over was Bob! I told him the layouts streets were not coasters:(
Glad your back though your house got dirty quick:(:o:rolleyes: Sorry about the mess:D:)
Next time you leave town Rex, try to fill the ice box please! a few t-bone steaks a taters would have been nice!

Good Morning from nice-and-sunnyville. We're going to a high of 18C and we are currently sitting at 8C. We are going to see a 40% chance of any rain this week but we are going to be dull,dull,dull:eek::eek::eek:--THAT we get lots of--:(

Rex Leave for a few days---ever't'in' needs a bit o' work t'git't'rust out'n it-----:eek::D:D I came home to a giant honey do list:eek::rolleyes:

Chris--well you tol' me I could!!:eek::D:D:D

Bob I play guitar--have a '65 Burns 'Baby Bison'(British guitar) and a much modified/battered looking '66 Gibson SG. Also play an old Selmer bass and baritone sax as well as bass---Richenbacher stereo bass--I think about late '60's(?). The stuff we played was good ol' fashioned freak out stuff of the psychedic kind---as well as prog. The band I was in--and currently bashing together--would easily go from 4 guys to 8/9 within a moments notice--depending on whatever we played. We had 2 arrangers--myself and this other p/t player. We had 2 drummers--one who also had an 'EXTENSIVE' collection of various things and electronic gadgets to modify the drum sound---Yep, all over the map we were:):)

Just thought I'd share a couple of my pics of my newest additions. :D

:D

Shown on my half built 3' diorama. :) plan on adding scenery soon.

howdee Bob, good luck with the fishing, you oughta come out to Oz for some Barra fishing mate! Bloody top stuff.

Chrysler took a while to fall, but they were always going to be the first to go. I'm not sure what will happen here in Australia, as there is quite alot of Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealers, and the Nitro and Avenger, 300C and Jeep Compass are quite popular with young idiots who want something boxy like a H3 Hummer but don't want to pay the $$ for it. Mind you I don't mind the Avenger, looks wise, but performance is very poor compared to Aussie cars.

Cheers,

James

Good morning folks

It was 52 F and guess what; it was raining. High will be 58 F with more rain.

I had a nightmarish commute this morning. I sat for 45 minutes on the Schuylkill Expressway. There was a broken down car in the fast lane. When I called 911 they sounded like I was the first one to notify them it was out there.

With all the rain yesterday, needless to say my son’s baseball game was rained out. He also had Boy Scouts last night. With the weather the way it is I think my daughter’s softball game will be rained out tonight. She has flute tonight.

I read a disturbing article yesterday on how the State Museum and Historical Commissions wants to close several state historic sites and give them to the county or local governments to run. One of the sites is near us; Brandywine Battlefield in Chadds Ford. The thing that struck me was that the sites listed; Washington’s Crossing in Bucks County, Daniel Boone Homestead in Berks County, and Fort Pitt in Pittsburgh, were all Revolutionary War and French and Indian War era sites. The reason they listed was for closing the sites was that they are not enough paying customers. I know that the Friends of the Brandywine Battlefield have been screaming for years that the reason no one visits is due to the lack of access and parking. How can you visit if you can’t get there and once you are there you can’t park your car? I have heard the same thing about Washington’s Crossing. Sorry about getting on the soapbox but I have issues with the state agency is charged with the preservation of the state historic treasures that seemingly spends more time blocking projects that can improve safety and mobility throughout the state.

I hope everybody has a good day.
