One of the mistakes I made was cutting off the protrusions on the wrong side of the center pillar. That meant I had to cut off the right ones too.

Of course two kits gives me one extra pillar so I'm thinking about cutting the protrusions off of that and gluing them on where I wish I hadn't cut them off

I might put a backdrop behind it next but we'll see....I've got so many things started right now 🤪

You could simply mount a black backdrop behind about 1" which would give a depth to the structure.

Yes, I've done that kind of thing elsewhere on the layout. I printed several flats I downloaded from the internet. Some of them I glued directly to the backdrop and some I glued on to foam core then glued them to the backdrop to allude depth. It's a great idea but I don't have the room to put this building anywhere other than right against the backdrop (which will exist one day) so mainline trains aren't too close too it.

As background buildings go it has got more depth than others I'm aware of. I'll post pics of it on the layout soon

I have some Walthers, among others, buildings that have been cut, hacked, chopped, and reassembled three or four times. By the fourth time they’re not too pretty but still good for background.
And Paul you’re right, many of their kits use sprues from other kits.

I've said here that I don't expect to win any awards, I'm just having fun giving this a go! However, I may be wrong. I could be a front runner for the "Most Unfinished Projects Going at Once" award :)

I've started my scene which trains will run beneath once finished.

I used 3/16" foam core for the sidewalk. I will use 1/8" foam core for the streets. According to my math......1/16" is very close to 6" inches in HO scale. A good size for a curb.

The restaurant is just a place holder. I will get a kit designed to be a corner building for that spot at some point.

Hmmm? My photos can't be uploaded for some reason but I'll post anyway and try to figure that out.

That's the Ambassador Hotel kit from Bachman but I don't see why one couldn't repurpose it as an apartment building.

Mine is supposed to be a hotel because I glued images of a hotel lobby and a hotel bar on the first floor.
I have always liked that kit. Sadly I didn’t purchase one when they were reasonably priced. Now they go for crazy stupid prices on the secondary market.
