Your Other Hobbies

Autocross, British Sports cars (Spitfire) and whitewater kayaking to name a few!

Cool!
I miss my GTI; I used to enter it in winter and summer slaloms. Here's a shot of it back in 1986 and 2004. Grill changed and repainted in late 1990s. Got rid of it because it always got broken into.
Now I'm lusting for this Scirocco.

My other hobbies include old Mopars, and the collection currently includes 3 68 Barracudas (thus my screen name), a 68 Charger RT (currently in pieces at the body shop for an extreme make over), a 67 Plymouth Belvedere wagon and two 67 Dodge Coronets.

( On a side note, the courthouse lawn in the background of the first photo made national news a couple weeks ago when a Athiest group displayed a skeleton in a Santa suit nailed to a cross as their contribution to a holiday display in an attack on the Christian religion with the town council approving the display.)

And then theres the collection of 1/18 scale diecast cars, including a couple 4'x8' dioramas I made to display some of them.

And 1/32 scale slot cars share shelf space with some of the 1/18 scale diecast cars.

This, by the way, is a more recent picture of the Charger than the one above.

Yeah..I've owned a million Vdubs. Corrado, Rabbits, GTI, Passat etc. I would LOVE to have one of those Sciroccos too. Don't think they're coming to the US are they?

Check this out. Got $150.000 Canadian to spend?
I have no idea how true this is or how reliable the sources are.

However the Golf R will be coming to Canada according to this Vancouver Dealer. Looks pretty cool.

I know I mentioned ham radio a few posts back. A sub-hobby of that I've been engaged in and never thought to mention is I collect telegraph keys. At last count I had like 18 keys; mostly straight keys of one kind or another, a Vibroplex bug, and a couple of sounders like the old-style telegraph offices used. If anyone has a line on a wiremen's key (instead of the mechanicals being on a horizontal plane like a regular bug these had the action vertical so it wouldn't take up too much space on an operator's desk) let me know. Finding one of those has been impossible, even at hamfests.

Since I posted in this thread a long time ago. I have also since gotten into pinball. Been wanting to get a handfull of pinball machines for a future gameroom I would like to start on. There is just something about having fullsized pinball machines in your house.

OHHH how I miss my Mk1 Rabbit GTI! Mine had a few GO-"faster" parts on it when I bought it. Little things are 5-speed Go-Karts with doors!

Well, model railroading and railfanning has been with me since as long as I can remember. And dabbled in building model cars and airplanes when I was younger.

Have always owned a camera! From as far back as '87-ish(7years old) with my Transformers plastic point-n-shoot that took those "reel"? cartridges! Now have a Canon Rebel XSi digital.

Others through the years,
-raced R/C off-road cars- had a local dirt track and held weekly points series races

-paintball- played on a 5-man amateur tournament speedball team

-I fish and camp as much as I can

-fish tanks- currently have a bluegill and a channel cat that I caught in a tank right beside me.

-I dont have means to support my own race cars, but help wrench on a few- a 6300lb 4wheel drive Chevy Duramax that we've ran 11.73 in the 1/4. and help guys with dirt oval cars, a Super Late Model, and an Open-wheel Modified

and I am an avid computer gamer, FPS games, strategy games from time to time, a WW2 naval game, and I let my nerd flag fly with WoW

oh, I can include carrying on of the collecting of novelty cans and bottles and railroad art and collectibles from my dad. including 2 TPW dwarf signals (yes, real life signals after they were replaced in the yard) Frisco engineers seat, number boards, milepost signs, lanterns, 2 brake wheels...

This poster is an (as far as story that I remember) impromptu pen and watercolor work od artist Ron Hatch for the 1973 NMRA meet in Galesburg, IL. From what I remember of the story, there was little advertising and nothing noting anything else going on, so he sat down and whipped it up on the spot. He is also the same artist that did the BN U30Cs in the first painting. That was dad's most prized possession!

wood carving, camping hunting and fishing, model trucks, birdwatching, my black powder guns, my railroad layout, tropical fish, and gardening. ticks the wife off.

Apart from recently taking up trains again and bike riding before that, a lot of my hobbies stopped when I was a kid after my dad died. Used to build model cars & planes, keep rats, exotic lizards, and a whole tonne of tropical fish. Mum couldn't handle the upkeep herself, especially the fish (I'm talking about 20 tanks, some 6" long), so most of it stopped. I also spend about as much time playing video games as I do breathing. :D

What an interesting thread! (I've been gone awhile.) Now that I've retired from the Guard and my last daughter is married and the "nest" is empty, maybe I can get back to working on the layout. Other important hobbies are:
music composition and songwriting
playing jazz on saxophone
.22 pistol target shooting
reading technical war novels (Clancy, Coonts, etc.)

Other than model trains, I've been into modifying cars for a few years. I've currently got a 04 mustang gt with a few small things done to it. It's my summer cruising car so I'm not gonna get too into it for the time being. I've also got 8 tattoos, and enjoy drawing, painting and photography.

That would be nice in a good quality frame.

What does 3 and 4 channel mean?

Any videos?

3 channels are typically coaxial rotors for left right steering and a horizontal tail rotor for forward and reverse moving the tail up or down to change the pitch of the whole heli, 4 channel adds cyclic in place of the horizontal tail rotor.

I think, mostly I just fly them. The 3 channels are fun, easy to fly and cheap to fix, the drawback is they don't handle more than a light breeze, even the big ones, not so much blown around as not enough pitch to get a bite in the wind with the tail rotor, but the smaller ones are a blast to fly around the house.

No vids, but a few pics I can dig up of my Syma stable.
