I am working on one of my Athearn RTR GP40-2's, and was hoping to add headlights. I am going to add a nose light, as in most photos I have seen, the nose light is used and not the headlight.

Anyways, right now I have a DC layout, but will be switching to DCC soon. My question is, can I wire the lights to be directional in DC, and can I later add a decoder and have it work without rewiring too much?

Also, who makes the best bulbs for headlights?

Thanks,

If you're wiring lighting, I'd reccomend that you get LEDs as they are brighter, last longer, and produce little to no heat.

To wire directional lighting in DC, using LEDs with resistors is all you need as LEDs will only light when current is passing through them with the correct polarity. If you use bulbs, you will have to wire in some diodes.
