where do you work?

Wow, mostly educated, professional people here. Maybe I should go away!:)

Other than flipping pizzas at the local Sbarros, I've been in men's clothing my entire working career. I managed a clothing store for five years, owned my own for almost four, and now work for someone else again. I wasn't exactly a model student, so I used my gift for gab to earn a living. I have an opportunity to buy my place of employment within the next ten years if I want. This time I would not involve a bank to finance my dreams. The current owner bought the store over ten years. I hope to do the same. I actually enjoy what I do, so I may be a rag merchant the rest of my life! That is, of course, if that's what is planned for me.;)

Part time hobby shop sales associate, whose sidewalk overlooks the CSX RF&P subdivision in Ashland VA. If you are looking for any Train items, we have some hard to find and out-of-production items. send me a pm if you are looking for anything.

I'm almost embarassed to admit what a dull life I have lead.
I have been in the electrical utility industry since 1965. I co-oped in college at a couple City Engineering departments as an engineering aide cutting survey lines and drafting. Went to work out of college for an electrical distributor as a salesman. Then I got into the marketing dept. of a utility connector manufacturer.
As a "Product Specialist", I can tell you how to herd electrons from a generating station, transmit them across country at voltages up to 765,000 volts and distribute them down to 120 volts at your light plug.
However, I can barely change a 9 volt battery in a smoke detector.

I'm launching a new career soon to wire my layout!:D

I work at my hobby shop in York, Pa... White Rose Hobbies. I have been in the model train business for a while now and hope to be for sometime to come!

Check out our new website!

In the past I have worked for the IT Dept of Rite Aid Corporate Offices... And I was also a telephone technician... And even before that I worked at Sheetz, Toys-R-Us and Arbys...

Musical Genius, Retired!

Graduated from Eastman School of Music in 1968, Masters in 1975 from Elmira College, taught vocal/general music in 3 different school systems in NYS over a 32 year career. Had a few very interesting students (well, a whole lot really) with the likes of Todd and Brett Bodine being right up near the top.

In retirement I own a very small recording, DJ, and sound company. I have also worked as an asst greenskeeper, telephone company summer hire, tractor driver for a large farm, garbage route grunt, private teacher of guitar, professional singer and choir director, and as a camp director for the Boy Scouts of America. Well when you are a teacher, you have to do something for a living...........

I currently volunteer with several community organizations including the Martin Luther King Committee, Moderator of Deacons at the Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts of America, and presently serve as the Superintenent of the Lakeshores Division, NFR, NMRA.

Nothing too exciting in my work experience...

Started working for a publishing company right out of HS and was with them for about a hundred years...or so. Decided to go back to school so I moved from CO to NC to attend FSU. While there I worked at a dialysis center and part time at a grocery store. Knew that was not the job for me when I rang up a can of soda pop for $64.
Moved back to CO and work for the publishing co in marketing as I finish my degree in Psychology. I also do some part time work for an elder care company. I simply sit and visit with my clients and make sure they eat and take their meds. Wasn't sure if I would like it (and the 10-12 hours shifts do get loooong!), but I absolutely have fallen in love with my clients. Some have varying degrees of dementia and for some reason, I work well with them  One little lady loves to go for walks around the neighborhoood and take all the soda pop cans out of recycling bins and take them home. Go figure. Initially I was mortified. Now I help her pilfer the cans :D

Quite a variety of jobs/professions!
I worked in retail for 20 years, Eckerd Drugs then Target, then for a local independent bank in the accounting dept. for 9 years, and now for a log home builder since '02. I started there as the draftsman and now I'm the estimator. I've got 2 kids in college and 1 in 8th grade, so not much spare change for model railroad stuff.

I work in the automotive business, and hopefully will for a long time (but who knows these days). I am a business development manager for a Tier 1 supplier, previously I was a project manager.

I'm currently general manager for a RV parts and repair facility, though with the way the economy is going, very few will have cash for high dollar toys. Before that, I worked for Nissan North America both in R&D and repair. Before that, I had a brief (and painful) career as a crash test dummy:eek:. Prior to that, I worked for Bridgestone Americas in the safety and training department. Prior to that, I was involved in restoration of antique warplanes.

Where do I work????

Well, recently, at my daughter's house. Pay ain't all that great and the commute is a killer, but the food is fantastic!:p:D

Actually I'm retired. Ain't I lucky?;)

I'm an Account Manager for a government department called UK Trade & Investment. I manage a grants fund of about £3 million giving funding to small to medium enterprises enabling them to promote their goods and services at overseas trade fairs this helping them to begin exporting! It's not exactly always an interesting job but I get to travel a little (although not so much since the credit crunch) which enabled me to meet my wife in NY so that was a bonus!

Thought I would bring this Thread back up for review for the Newbies & anyone that has changed jobs since 2009.
I'm still Retired.

Pretty wide ranging assortment of jobs represented here.

I was a welder at a large strip mine in Illinois back in the late 70's and early 80's. We took up to 90 feet of overburden off to get at a 2 foot seam of coal. They closed the mine and the family and I moved to Arizona for six years where I worked at a machine shop and a fabrication shop. Then back to Illinois to work as a welder on a construction job for a while. Then as a welder and machinist for Komatsu in Peoria. Quit that to go through the Boilermaker's apprenticeship out of Local 60. Get to work at steel mills, chemical plants, coal fired power plants and nukes too. Will start in about a week working the refuel floor at a nuke here in Illinois. Get to disassemble the reactor and put it back together after all the fuel moves are made. Pretty interesting job!
