no trains,,, just yet
saw this today, it's the Duke of Lancaster and was the Isle of Man ferry, she was set in concrete in 1979 to be used as a market and tourist development, but this didn't last long, now she's rusting away sat in a small dock in North Wales, so close to the open sea's and freedom, yet so far away
Nice work, guys. Crandell, I can see you getting into the old-time postcard business soon. Dave, we all have to start somewhere and you're doing just fine. Steve, that is indeed a sad end for that ship. I guess it must be completely abandoned now by the look of it. Nice layout shots. Dave, interesting shot and kind of surprising you can still find a GP-38-2 in Conrail paint. What caught my eye was that right hand numberboard on the NS unit. It almost looks like someone used a Magic Marker and hand drew the number eight. . I haven't been doing anything to my layout in the past two weeks but I'll see if I can get a few shots this weekend.
I felt lucky When I first moved "down south" in 2001, there was a pleasant number of CR runthrough locos, and occasionally a CR on the local freight. This was a nice surprise. Straight Conrail too, no quality in this ol girl
An attempt at a closeup of my "deadline" shot yeilded a near miss with a tankcar on a reversing local. Nikkon meet GATX
My deadline includes SD45s 681 and 684, GP35 207, GP38 252, SW7 1424, SW1500 1453, and SD30 701.
Today I got loads done although it may not look like it !!
Both boards have been together on the dinning room table and the tracks jointed. The curved section on the in shed fixed section has been layed with the ends matched to the previously laid track on the two portable sections.
The longer terminus board has had all the tracks linnked together to make it suitable for DCC ie "all live" and I have wired it into the control and had a loco running. I found this green 20 in a box ! Its the body of a Bachmaan sound 20 on a standard 20 chassis. I also dragged out my private owner wagons and Ive decided I like the look of the sorter wagons, it makes the layout look bigger! I know that private owen stock went out some time ago, but am I right in thinking some went into BR ownership (perhaps a en-mass respray ?) Early diesel / short wagons
Had to put a couple of excavators on overtime today to help get the walls up on the enginehouse. They helped make quick work of the assembly and the whole crew got home before dinner.
Great pictures everyone! I had great plans, I went & bought some yellow spray paint & everything! Sadly, the Walther's AP well cars have a 48' well, I need 53' well cars. Oh well for now, I guess I'll have to kit bash from some Aline cars.
John Yes, private owner wagons soldiered on well into the late 70's and early 80's, loads were kept for the engineers, they got all the crap nobody else wanted, they were at the bottom of the food chain so to speak, cattle wagons went out long ago though, not sure what year ??/ mmmm. I have a picture somewhere of Wigan springs branch depot in 85, there were hundreds of "windcutters" mineral wagons still in use for ballast spoil and the like.
After some discussion Ive decided to aim for early 60's that way I can use some Private owner stuff that has been taken in to BR, I can also have them behind diesel power rather than steam, although the odd steam may arrive !
Im hoping the wagons look more convincing in these next shots after a morning of fading letters and weathering.
After some advice about PO wagons, Ive toned mine down, and given them a good weathering. The track has also had a good cover with Matt black to get it to be more uniform (some was recycled from the outdoor layout)
Sounds good to me, they were minging at that time, nobody had time to clean anything, morale was non existent due to impending doom, buildings were left to rot away, general maintenance was only done if it was a life or death situation, even almost new diesels soon became filthy.
Some great work this weekend as always! This is by far my favorite thread each week.
I've been working on the farm scene at the top of the hill. Finally got the silo blower finished (scratch built except for the wheels and drawbar). The only thing I'm not completely satisfied with is the belt connecting the blower and the Waterloo Boy tractor. Since it will be rather hidden in the scene once the house is put in place, the 3' rule may apply. Or I may try to figure something else out if it bugs me too much. (Maybe Railphotog the belt expert can chime in here for me.) You can also see the Milkhouse (Spring house) I have been creating for the scene as well on the lower left side of the photo.
A couple overviews of where the scene is at right now. Still a lot to be done, but it will have to wait as the layout will be inspected for the Electrical Certificate this week.
