I have 3 resin backdrop buildings that I picked up a long time ago. Basically they are approx an inch and a half deep on the sides with a front, roof and floor section. All are moulded in one piece and are hollow, the wall thickness being about 1/8 of an inch. The front walls have warped to a concave shape.
Any chance of heating or boiling them up in a pot of water and straightening them back flat? All 3 are in raw resin with no paint so there is nothing to damage as far as that goes. I've been able to correct some plastics this way but never attempted it with resins. Any other methods that will work or should I just lay them face down filled with water and use them for decal soaking?
I've heard of using a double boiler to do this, never done it myself. Personally I've used a hairdryer with limited results.
I've used boiling water and heating the casting in a 200 degree oven. The oven trick seems to work better because you can feel the casting and tell when it's ready to bend. Keep an eye on it and check every minute or so. When you can start to bend it, take it out and place it on a flat surface. Cover the concave section with a towel and load it with whatever weight you can fit in there. If that doesn't work, it's hopeless and you'll have to see if you can get replacements from the manufacturer. BTW, this kind of thing is why I'm not a big fan of resin kits.
I'm no big fan of resin either except I happened to spy these at a show many years ago for about $2 a piece as I recall. Figured they were cheap enough for a background building flat that only needed some paint seeing the detail work on them is pretty nice. No clue as to who the mfr is/was, Quasimodo Backpack & Resin Works or somebody equally obscure. Anyhow I'll try the suggestions you guys mentioned and see what happens. They end up junk it won't be a big loss.
