Justin: Ya might take a look at 'Dark Table' as I think I remember you can convert grayscale to a somewhat colorized version. Ya need to pick one ( or a couple ) of colors that you know what they are and go from there. Dark Table is the open source ( free ) version of Light Table. Either of those are pretty detailed as to what you can do.
