Unusual Locomotives


i've never seen that other research car, i think 38. The nice shiney one. I really wish I could model these, but to much custom work for me.
 
If you take a look at the pictures of #34 that Josh linked to, you'll see that it has a variety of different trucks, including two different trucks on the same test car. It usually travels in company with a dynamometer car, the one that looks like a passenger car. NS spends lots of money on testing different truck configurations for things like wheel slip, adhesion, efficiency, and tractive effort. This leads to field modifications that improve locomotive performance. NS is a real leader when it comes to this kind of research. IMHO, it's one of the better run railroads in the country, and their stock performance reflects that.
 
That would be cool if that scheme were Norfolk Southerns actual paint scheme...if someone modeled the research cars, they should model a custom locomotive with those colors to aact as a "mother unit"
