I am building an island layout 4' wide by 22' long. I have Atlas flex-track and a mixture of Atlas and Peco switches. I purchased several of the unitrack bridges and the transition pieces. I love the conections it has. I looked into switching track to all unitrack. With the replacement switches, the total cost to switch would be around $1200. If I used the regular switches I have and leveled everything up, the cost drops to about $450. Question is this. If it was you, would you switch? Is the benefits worth the new cost as I already have the flex. Plus would the switches on regular roadbed work with the unitrack?
Thanks,
Jeff
I have used Kato unitrack for a long time. Definitely a good track product. But just a few things to note:
1. There does not seem to be any long straight sections. I mean really long pieces. I hate having to put a bunch of small pieces of together.
2. The road bed actually discolors due to sun light. I went through some old track and found parts of the road bed that turned a yellow color. Pretty common due to the oils in the plastic. Easy fix though if you just paint over it, or make a road bed to cover it up.
