Friendly Indian!
Hello folks, heres the pics of my layout so far, hope you like them.

This is a full shot of my 4X8 layout with base in the works,

I also have many military trains that are not shown in the pics, the two bottom doors on the layout base open up to show 10 train shelves that will store my military trains and the army rolling stock, I just need to find the right hinges for the doors.

Thanks for checking out my work, like I said, I'm new at this so be kind..:D

Looking good. Can you share a sketch of your track plan. Hard to tell how the ovals are connected from these pics.

You'll probably get some critique about the roundy-round track plan, but it works for me. The only sugguestion I would make is (if possible) add one more turnout that would give you a spur to the quary.

Keep up the good work.
Doug

Looks like a great start. I like the cabinet concept as a base for the layout. Good way to make use of the space that usually just collects junk and cobwebs. :)

Thanks guys,

Well I'm not sure how to show the track plan without using the pictures that I've already posted.

There is one big circle around the 2nd set of tracks inside, the inside has about 3 loops and what else can I say?

As far as those who may have something to say about so many loops. thats fine, if they don't like all the loops they will be more than welcome to come on over and build me a layout, I'll supply everything but at this stage in my development loops is all I can really do, please anyone, come and do the work for me I won't stop ya and I'll even feed ya...LOL!

I like my trains to go round and round, I don't pretend to understand the layouts that do not connect at one end or the other, I'm guessing the trains only run back and forth in kind of a straight line with some switching?, they must be very popular though I see a lot of them.

Over the next few days I'll be trying my hand at hills and elevations for a more dramatic scenery.

As far as the Pipe Stone Quarry I want to have a loading dock on my main line and have the stone slabs trucked from the quarry too the loading docks this way I can model rock trucking also.

I know I'm different but that is how I am, wait until you see the lift system for the quarried blocks of pipe stone then you will either like my style or never speak to me again tee hee hee!

No matter what happens I'm having the time of my life right now and I hope to always be building a layout of some sort, after this is done I'll be working on a large collection of interchangable building lots so I can change my towns design at will without tearing up my layout, if I don't like a corner of my town after a while I'll just pluck the building and its lot right off the layout, go to my collection of lots, pick one and then viola, it's done, ahhh, an interchangable town, now thats fun!

my Grand sons love the idea of (A) having two different track systems so they can both run their own trains at the same time and (B) being able to design the town before, during and after their train playing sessions.

Now lets see what new trouble I can get into or new model rail roading rules I can twist, break or bend.

Happy Rails my Friends.

Hey, Jesse, it's your railroad, have a ball. :) It would be pretty boring if all of made layouts that looked just the same.

nice work so far jess. i too am in the beginning stages of a 4X8. here is a thread following my progression so far: http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7553
seeing the work some of these guys do is sometimes intimidating to me. from the completed layouts, to the weathering, to the photos, to the general know how. most times though, it is a big inspiration. i will be there one day; the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. im glad to see another newbie with a 4X8 loop and aspirations of doing more once completed. i really 'dig' your rock quarry. looking forward to more photos of your progression.
