Sorry I did not post sooner but thankyou for all of the great ideas and pics. I did some testing with drywall mud. Not to bad but I think I will go the styrene rout. My question is where can I buy sheets of it? I have no local hobby shop. I do have a Hobby Lobby close by but I have not had a chance to check them out yet. Thanks again.

You can usually find good deals on sheet styrene at craft stores like Michaels. If you don't mind piecing things together, the best deal in stryrene is plastic signs at WalMart. Find the biggest ones they have and then cut them to width and butt them up against the next piece of highway. They are cheap, about the right thickness, and the back is always white, which gives a good painting surface.

Maybe a dumb question but when you say signs from Wal-Mart what do you mean? FOR SALE signs and stuff like that or others? Thanks!

Correct, those "For Sale" type signs. The plastic is actually a very good quality styrene. The only problem is th some of them are not flat so check them carefully before buying. Try to get signs with as little printing on one side as possible so colors don't bleed through. You can do all the roads on a pretty good sized layout with about $20 worth of signs.

I made one short section of city street with styrene and it's not half bad and much easier than using plaster, gunk, mud, etc.

Sort of jumping in here at the tail end have you tried non-sanded grout ?? by custom can be found at any home depot in lots of colors to.
