I am buying a DCC controller & need some advice as this is a new venture for me. I am seriously considering the Digitrax Zephyr controller to replace my current D/C one.

Does anyone on here use this system or know anyone who does?? I want to run 2-3 trains on my layout, but not sure if it would have the power??

Any recommendation on other units that may be better?? I want the power, with ease of use, without breaking the bank.

Lots of threads on this subject. Do a search, & read the discussions. Try it at your LHS, plus the NCE powercab, plus the MRC system. Buy the one you like. All three are very close in price and well supported.

I have the Zephyr. I've gotten it to run several trains on my 9.5'x15.5' HO layout. It's a good unit for getting into the DCC game. The only thing it needs to come with is a DT400 (programming throttle) so that it is easier to program your locomotives as well as run them.

You can program locomotives with your Zephyr without a seperate throttle. A seperate throttle makes it easier if you want to run untethered. The basic DT400 can be used as a walkaround if you install plug-in ports around the layout, or if you install an infrared receiver. For normal untethered operation, you could unplug it, and walk around and then plug it in when you need to make a change such as speed, direction, functions, etc.

The DT400R/DT402R is radio equipped and can run untethered and you can make any changes you want without plugging in (you still need to plug in to program, and to select or dispatch locos). You need to buy the radio receiver panel (UR91) to use radio mode. The DT400R has up to 12 function keys, the DT402R has up to 28.

The DT402D is the newest one. It allows you to do whatever you want without ever plugging in as long as the throttle is set up and you have the duplex panel (UR92).

Digitrax also makes utility throttles (UT series) for running locomotives but without programming capabilities.

The Zephyr is an all-in-one package which means that it will work right out of the box and you don't need to buy anything else unless you want to upgrade.

I use the Zephyr and have found it to be plenty good....It's got enough punch to run 4 trains at once, plus you can use your old DC packs as throttles with it...For a solo operation, it's more than enough...

I still have a used Digitrax Zephyr that I have not put on e-bay yet. I will ship it to you for $110.00 . Includes all the original box instruction etc.

You can PM me or email me if interested. I do take Paypal.
