SPROG 2, does anyone use it?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. I read about this little gadget on the Modelrailroader.com site, and asked my local LHS DCC guy, and he said it was a neat little system. I picked one up the other day, since I've had trouble getting the right power source for my Tsunami PTB100, and wanted to use Decoder Pro in conjunction with programming.

I hooked it up yesterday, and went through playing with a few locos with Decoder Pro. I was surprised that the GUI (graphical user interface) would change depending on who made the decoder, not just because the decoder had sound or not. Programming with Decoder Pro is very nice and easy.

The SPROG 2 is supposed to work with Loconet and such, and you can run trains with it (hooked up to your layout), but there isn't a Loconet style port for it. Has anyone hooked it up to their layout?

Just pulled my Sprog out for the first time for about a year - mind you I haven't had my railroad running much in that time.

I have hooked it up to my new N scale layout and will try and run that from the Sprog later this weekend. I will report progress.

I misspoke. The JMRI software works with Loconet, not SPROG. I thought SPROG then would allow me to use my computer with my Loconet (Digitrax).

I'm not sure where you got this information, but the SPROG does not work with Loconet.
That is Ditto!
From their website: What are the differences between SPROG II and other DCC interface devices?
SPROG II is a stand-alone DCC decoder programmer and DCC controller. SPROG II does not provide an interface to other DCC controllers. There are other DCC devices, such as Locobuffer, that are designed to link the computer to an existing DCC system, and the DCC system then provides the response to computer-sourced commands...

Sorry, but you would have been better off just buying Locobuffer or equiv and using JMRI software.;)
