Software to read and program decoders

I'am looking for software (pc is running vista) that connects to my railraod hardware (lenz) to readout decoders and program decoders. I know JRMI Decoder Pro does the job, but are there more (freeware) programs that will do the same job?

There are other apps out there but not for free. The JMRI suite including Decoder Pro is the best there is. I'm running it on Vista with no problems albeit with Digitrax. You will need the Lenz LI-USB or LI-101F to connect your DCC setup to the PC. One other thing to remember is that not all decoders can be read and not all DCC command stations provide readback of decoders.

Given all that it does, and the fact that it is the best, go with the JMRI suite. It's free and since it's open source, it is constantly being upgraded.

Check the manual that came with your hardware and make sure that it can read decoders. As Andrew said, not all command stations can read decoders.

Try Rocrail. That is free software too. Nice thing about Rocrail theres an iPhone
app called iRoc. Its a free throttle. Also works with Itouch.
