I started a new locomotive project of a St-Lawrence & Atlantic GP-40 road # 3205.

I'm using an Atlas undecorated GP-40 model.

I shortened the fuel tank to 3200 gal., I removed the top headlights, I made small wedges above the road number on the front of the cab and also modified the pilots.

Stuff to do next: I will install a pyle headlight on the nose, add fuel tank details, install air tanks. I will also replace the inaccurate Atlas truck sideframes with Athearn Blomberg using Details West adapter plates.

Here is my Atlas GP-40 with Details West AP-356 Adaptor plate & Blomberg sideframes. They look more accurate than the oversized Atlas sideframes. I followed Brian Banna instructions for the conversion at
http://www.6axlepwr.com/SIDE_FRAME_CONVERSION.html

And it work pretty well, my trucks still run as smooth as before !

I received a bunch of details parts lately so I will be ready to begin the fuel tank detailing.

Also, I'm searching for the dimension of Fugiel Retention tanks since I would like to scratchbuild one. I saw this unit on a picture of the SLR 3205 and it look like their mid-size slanted model. http://www.fugiel.com/Products/Retention%20Tanks.html

Thanks

Why not just get this for the Retention tank?

Hi Tech Details #6009 Waste Fluid Containment tank Angled.

Hi everyone,

I started adding details to the fuel tank and its not an easy task with Atlas locos since there is not a lot of space under the chassis. I installed traction cable but I add to squeeze them behind tubing and air tank to make them fit properly.

I also found a drawing of my project locomotive on Trainiax website. This is a valuable source for detailing a specific model:

The LLPX GP-40: http://trainiax.net/mescaleloco36-results.php?mark=LLPX&drawing=undecmark&lrtype=L

I still have more plumbing to do before completing this step.

Very nice highroller! I've thought about modeling the slr lately. I live in southern Maine and model pan am/ guilford, but where they interchange I might pick up some slr units. If your selling any some time let me know.....

Nice work so far. It will look good in the GWI orange & black when you get it finished.

I made a scratchbuilt retention tank which is a little larger than the prototype but I decided to keep it that way. Once painted black it should be less apparent. I have now completed the detailing of the chassis. I'm now ready for priming and painting. Thats it for now, I need a break :D

The paint scheme will not be too hard to do since I got a nice set of decals with black strips :)

Thanks for the advice Jerome. I had the same issue with Microscale CN decals in the past so I assume it may happen with all brand of decals.
