Has anyone used Testors Semi Gloss clear as a final coat after decaling? I've always painted with Floquil and used a 20% Floquil Glaze and applied the decals when the paint is cured. Testors Dull Coat was what I applied to hide the decal film and give the uv bleached dull look to the paint, pretty much a standard way of doing rolling stock.

Right now I am in the middle of a paint and decal job on a transfer caboose and want it to have a fresh from the paint shop look without being either dead flat from the Dull Coat or overly shiney so I thought of top coating with the Testors Semi Gloss.

I'm not worried over paint compatabililty, just wondering if the Semi Gloss will effectively hide the decal film as well as the Dull Coat does.

Thanks for any opinions or suggestions.

Mike, I've used the Testor's Semi Gloss and like it better than Floquil Glaze. It goes on smoother without the cracking you sometimes get with Glaze. The sheen is more "metallic" looking as well. It's not quite as good as dull Cote for covering decal film but pretty close.

Thanks Jim. After thinking it over and your input I am going to give it a try. This little T car will be the first to get my new custom made decals that I mentioned in another post here. Pics will be put up when she is ready for work.
