Somewhat similar dilemma here. Wife's birthday is February 12. A few months before we were married, I told her politely that it was one or the other, but not two celebrations. Well, we've lasted 52 years! We don't celebrate my birthday though.
I don't celebrate my birthday. It's just another day, but someone else does. I tell her she only does its because its 2 weeks before hers!

Good morning all!

Currently 50 degrees going up to a high of 80. Yet another gorgeous fall day. Looks like the upper 80s starting tomorrow, so the nice temps are coming to an end.

Not sure what the day will bring or what's on the agenda, its still way too early to tell.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good Morning All. Clear and 54°, last cool morning for a while. False Fall is over. Temperatures back into the 90's today with possible 100° on Saturday. Keeping the pool open looks like a good decision.

Thanks to all for the well wishes for our anniversary. I am looking forward to many more.

Another boring day here yesterday. I did mow for over an hour and did other yardwork. Went out to eat last night at a newly opened place in Denton, Saltgrass Steakhouse. Their 82 locations are mostly in Texas and other southern states. I used to eat at a location near where I worked about once a month, when salesmen still took me out to eat. Costs have almost doubled since then! Last night with Blackened Redfish for her and 12 oz Rib Eye Steak for me, with just one glass of wine and one draft beer, was $114 before the $22 tip. Slightly higher than a trip to Outback, and slightly lower than a trip to Houlihan's.
I still have more mowing to do today, and then my last PT session is this afternoon. I won't really miss that, as I have developed a home routine with most of the same stretches that they are doing. It has worked for the most part, as the sciatica seems to be mostly absent.

I will not be watching the "Great Debate" tonight, although my wife will. It's not going to change the way that we will vote anyway, at least not me! It might have some entertainment value though.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I added a couple of road signs and a couple of vehicles around Gi Gi's Candy Store, the adult book place.

That's a '63 Corvair and a '55 Buick station wagon, both Oxford models.
I also started adding weed clusters to the scene.

Not done with the weeds yet, just ran out of time. There's more out back but that picture didn't work.

Chad - Interesting story on the Homecoming. I feel sorry for both , daughter and date. He must have felt really awkward and she must have felt really hurt. I am hearing from my two grandson's, 15 & 17, about the same rituals that they are going through as well. Crazy! In my day, it was just another date, although more formal than the usual date.

Like the saying goes, "You can't take it with you". Enjoy it now.

Let's hope that the stock market can continue it's one day winning streak after an absolutely horrible week last week. On paper, I lost the equivalent of 2 months worth of wages when I was working. I can't really complain because last October/November I made over a year's worth in just 2 months.
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning from So Central Wisconsin where it’s 45f degrees heading into the mid 80’s. Other than a smoke haze from Canadian fires it’s been very nice after 10am for about a week. When the sun is out and the wind is not blowing crazily even mid 60’s are nice. The air quality is at 22 or they say fair. It’s a very high level haze that the local media weather guessers says is not affecting our health. Yeah right…

We have volleyball on campus tonight at 7. Last night we went to a volleyball thing at the Field House that I would say was fun but was actually an event to squeeze more money out of the donors to the Athletic program already. One of the university associate athletic directors is a good friend of the daughter. One of her sons is probably the best friend of our grandson. They have been on the same soccer and most hockey teams since kindergarten. She saw us there and came over to say hi and asked what we were doing there? Told her we got the invite. She said she will look into the invite list as she saw a few others she didn’t think needed to be there as they are donors already. If you had asked me 12 years ago to donate to the Athletic program on Campus I would have told you no. If you had asked for Women’s athletics I would have said hell no! While I still think it’s ridiculous for a public university to ask tax payers to donate I now understand the why. I’m not 100% in agreement with Terry on this but I have come from being completely opposed to it to an ok I get it. We personally only donate to the Women’s programs on campus and besides VB and ice hockey, it’s also softball and soccer. Our company still contributes to a Women’s scholarship fund for business majors. It’s our way of helping pay it forward because when we both were in college we received scholarships. I had a Evans caddy scholarship and Terry received a Young Radiator Scholarship as her dad worked there. Watching the fund raisers corner couples last night was part of the fun though…

I have a few more packages going to the post office this morning. Just waiting for a few more payments and the September commissions will be complete. I started on diesels last week and the next few days I will continue working on those and start the freight cars for October. Except for 2 cars I have put my personal projects back on the shelf. I will be quite busy for the next month. I’m supposed to leave for golf on the 15th in October but my strength is not returning very quickly from my last bout with Covid and now a medicine imbalance. I have 3 straight events I signed up for and it’s looking doubtful I’ll be physically able to play as 2 of those 3 events are walking only.

On my medical front, I still cannot get through the afternoon without a 30 minute nap and when I wake, I’m not refreshed. My walk is still stuck at 1 mile in the morning and I am dead tired afterwards. My 18 minutes per mile in July is at 30 minutes and I’m struggling to achieve that. I agreed to and yesterday requested a referral to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. My Endocrinologist found where my previous Endocrinologist from the Marshfield Clinic system moved to and he’s in Phoenix not Rochester, Mn. She wants him to look me over. I’ll drop everything and get there whenever they say. This is frustrating and a similar feeling to the Lyme’s disease adventures I had in 2018 and 19 before they figured it out. The UW Medical system doctors have ruled out Long Covid, Lyme and West Nile diseases.

The op session that was cancelled yesterday did lead to some great raw videos showing up in text messages last night. 6 of the guys from the cancelled session drove down to Rochelle, Il and chased UP#4014 to outside Chicago. A couple of the guys said the crowds at even remote crossings was crazy. I did read that UP anticipated 50,000 to walk by #4014 and its train while parked at the Global 3 intermodal yard just west of Rochelle on Sunday.

I will miss that voice of James Earl Jones. He left quite a legacy of voiceovers…

As you guys know Terry handles our financials, especially the stock market. I now know why she was so quiet about it last week. I was distracted by my health so she was shielding me from the bad news. Glad to read about the new winning streak.

I see another big outfit, Big Lots filed for bankruptcy. 1400+ stores! That should be the financial story this week not the Stock Market. The excessive money put into the economy because of Covid in 2020 is still causing havoc and is the main reason Big Lots says in its filing. They haven’t recovered. The previous administration refused to listen until it was too late to the medical advisers and compounded it by giving away against it own money advisers, those free payments. There should have paybacks to the government money given to the Pharmaceutical companies when they were creating the vaccines. So many many in hindsight mistakes! The current administration just compounded the money issue by extending the previous money give always.

Back to the trains…

I talked with her yesterday more about it. Seems more the date was just kind of clueless and more self-centered (more like 12 than 17 -- he is 16). I still think it could have been money/cost but he did not get himself involved in the planning too much but wanted to tag along with this "friends group" and had agreed and at the last minute backed out.

The joys of being a teenager, navigating new experiences.

Ughhh!!! just finished PT session. I hurt more now than when I got up this morning.
I don't think this PT is doin what it was Rx to do. I have an appointment with my spine rehab Dr. this Friday. Prolly get another steroid injection in the spine for asking.
Still wrestling with the signal control software. Can't get answers out of the forum or the vendor.
