Good morning gang!

69° and cloudy with a high of a 86° later and scatter showers.

10 o’clock last night I get a call from the wife, car won’t start. She had run out for some stuff and the battery in her car died. It is a 2017 so I guess it’s due. Add that to today’s list. Son #3 manages a NAPA store,( an hour away) and will be calling our local store to get us his price on a replacement.

Then I have to run to PA for train parts. I better saddle up!

Good morning Crew and welcome to September. Our anniversary #48 is on the 18th, my birthday #72 is the 29th, Terry is older on the 27th and a bunch of other birthdays and anniversaries in both families this month. Hey January is a cold month in the Upper Midwest! Wisconsin has cooled down! 61f degrees now 73 later. Mid 70’s for the next week but of course that’s just a guess from the weather folks.

Today on TV again the still #3 UW Badger Women’s Volleyball team plays in Milwaukee against the defending NCAA champion UT-Austin team and current #1. It’s on Fox at 12:30 Eastern! Monday the Wisconsin Badgers play #5 Stanford at 5:30pm also on Fox. We decided to stay home when the tickets were announced. The price gouging on these tickets was a bit much. They lost this past week to #6 Louisville and didn’t look good doing it. These games will be interesting.

After VB on TV we will head to the Taste of Madison as Terry says she wants to go and the weather should be nice. 80’s and she would have said no but of course I put my foot in my mouth when I said I don’t want to hear a word about how crowded it is. She hates crowds like this. That trip will also be interesting and no there was no joy at bedtime last night and I doubt any this morning!

I did receive a box of freight cars and a diesel yesterday. That fills up September and October weathering commissions for me. I think I mentioned here I’m going to work when I feel like it. No longer is the weathering days of Monday, Wednesday and Fridays in effect! I am back to golf on the 17th of October and there are 3 weeks of that in a row. I will see how this goes for me. The 3 designated days were too confining or restrictive and it was making it feel like a business. It was like I had to report in on those days, so…

I see no dew or moisture in the grass this morning. I’ll wait till 9 to use the lawn mover in case some of the neighbors are staying in bed! Chance of overnight showers so today is the day. My normal grass day is Monday but the grass seems to have really grown the last few days. It only takes about 90 minutes trimming and then pushing a mower around. FUN!

Enjoy the day

I've played football, wrestled, and dabbled in basketball. But baseball is my first love and the sport I've played the most. Being a good hitter in baseball I thought golf would be easy. "How hard can it be, the ball isn’t moving, it’s just sitting there."

I found out how hard golf is! Golf is a precision game. Baseball is a game of inches, Golf is a game of hundredths of an inch. The barrel of a baseball bat has a sweet spot of about two inches. A golf club is not so forgiving. I always hit the ball hard and long, but I often ended up as far from the hole as I started. Or even futher!

I also learned you don't have to be good at golf to enjoy it. Even a "hacker" like me will hit at least one good shot. That's all you need to keep coming back.

My time playing golf was brief due to back injuries, but I loved every round I played, all twelve of them. Especially when I broke 100 for the first and only time.

Well, howdy there internet peeps.

Nothing new on the mother front. I'm not expecting much. Just a slow decline.

I spent most of yesterday out on the patio enjoying warmer than Alaska weather. Got to the mid 80s but wasn't oppressively humid. We have a few neighbors with dogs. Lord Fuzzbut, the house feline enjoys the sun outside, and watches for chipmunks scurrying across the patio.

A few years ago I got a battery operated "Bark Sensor" that looks like a birdhouse. When it senses a loud bark, it sends out a pulse of sounds in the dog-whistle frequency.

Yes, my hearing aids get an interference clicking when it activates.

And yes, it went off due to my loud, deep chested hacking to bring up some of the covid phlegm. Which scared the cat, and he ran to the stoop and dove through the pet door to safety inside.

In the process of coughing up a lung yesterday, I managed to put some stress tears into my throat lining. So coughing is to be subdued today. Lots of honey in drinks. And probably some whisky.

The one good thing of this vacation/covid fiasco is that my sleep schedule has shifted to awaking about 6:30am instead of 4:30. I'm hoping that continues.

A group of seniors was sitting around talking about all their ailments.
"My arms have become so weak I can hardly lift this cup of coffee," said one.
"Yes, I know," said another. "My cataracts are so bad, I can't even see my coffee!"
"I couldn't even mark an "X" at election time, my hands are so crippled," volunteered a third.
"What? Speak up! What? I can't hear you, said one elderly lady!"
"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck," said one,
to which several nodded weakly in agreement.
"My blood pressure pills make me so dizzy!" exclaimed another.
"I forget where I am, and where I'm going," said another.
"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an old man as he slowly shook his head.
The others nodded in agreement.

"Well, count your blessings," said a woman cheerfully.... "Thank goodness we can all still drive!"

Good Morning All!

53F @ 60% and clear. Is to be in the upper 80's all week.

Gawd, September? Seems like August was like yesterday!

Our renter Rodney went to UDub for brain tumor surgery 10 days ago. Supposed to be a straight forward procedure. 8 hour surgery and short post-op. Moved him to ICU, then back to his room. While there they spotted blood coming from the hole in his head and moved him back to ICU. Did a MRI and found that he had a stroke either during the OP or just afterwards. One side was affected but not the whole side. Day later they moved him to rehabilitation and called all the family in. Not sure if it was end of life or them wanting to get it figured out what they are going to do with him. Even though he remembers some of both short term and long term stuff, he thinks he is in Colorado and ADD is big time. Can not cook for himself nor do anything that takes multiple thought steps. They keep telling the family that it is pretty much normal for the ADD after any brain procedure but are worried about the stroke affects. They are kinda alluding to someone will have to take care of him, length unknown. I am not exactly sure where family members live, but think his sister is in WY, Dau lives in CA and son in either Libby or Troy. He is 65. Time will tell.

Well all of our plans went sideways yesterday. Went and got more paint for trim and started seeing garage sale signs - a lot! Promised the wife breakfast in Troy at Iron Creek Cafe so went and did that. 2nd time we have been there and it was good again! Anyway, hit a couple of garage sales on the way back and when we got to Libby, Then poof! Interior fan went Kaput. Still had A/C but not forced. Got the Expedition book from NAPA ... Geesh, $40 now for a $14.95 item. So this morning after cutting 4 more trim pieces so she can paint, will go out and start sorting through the electrical and see if there is a short, fuse shot or ?

Good morning all!

Happy September. Hard to believe August is in the books!

Going to be a very pleasant day in Northern Illinois with temps in the 70s and humidity is not bad either.

No real plans for the day, but the wife seems like she is in the mood to tackle some sort of household project that will ultimatly have me involved at some point. Cant decide if I want to mow today or tomorrow. we shall see.

Have a safe day everyone!

Orange cones and barrels are the state flowers of most of the midwest
Ya, cone people! Few years back we were traveling on I70 east and was following FedEx. Cone appeared from under his trailer. Got on the radio and said 'Hay FedEx - are you killing cone people?' as it hit us pretty much dead center on the tractor bumper and went under. He replied 'No, it was Swift'. Giggle. Watched it come out the back of our trailer and it spun around a couple of times moving to the roadside. Dang thing stood up right next to another one at the side of the road; probably waiting for the next Swifty.
