Very nice pic -- I'll add one:

Good Evening. Happy to say that after several issues earlier today, my wife was finally released from the hospital around 4:30. I only had to wait about 90 minutes during which time I ogled the overweight nurses. She is home now and in good spirits. She actually has more mobility than she expected and should be able to pee by herself. I'm about to make tacos for supper, so I'll see y'all in the morning. Time now for a fresh beer!:)

Good morning all! 64 degrees heading up to 75 today. Supposed to be rainy again. This is the final day of my 6 days in a row working before my 4 day weekend. I have a lot to get done over those 4 days, but hoping to have some fun too.

This is my last day working with my favorite manager. He's moving on to a job that doesn't consume his entire life the way this one does. He's got a young family and he wants to spend time with them so he found something else. Hate to see him go, but can't blame him a bit.

Been trying to come up with ideas for a switching layout for that 72" by 30" layout board I have out in the garage. I'm terrible at coming up with track plans of any kind. Got a couple ideas, but not much so far.

Hoping you all have a great day!
Ken

Good Afternoon all. Cannot stay long as we are preparing to go shopping, oh joy!

Go ASTROS, hehe

The road crossing I worked on. I realized after viewing it's not a good photo, but that's all there is.

The light the angle might not make it look pretty but it is informative, the low cars the single storey cafe the 2 floor yellow blue and the taller buildings all give a really good sweeping perspective right into tHe sky line, and the rail crossing gives you a close left right view and a distance head on or curved train view the buildings to the right also have visible elements.
I personally thing this is an excellent informative photo with long enough lines to blur any iffy detail and under better conditions and time is going to be a superb spot for great photos, the weathered fence also shows an intent to go for quality modelling and much of the buildings are already sunk into the ‘ground’ no obvious floaters - if this was mine I would be very satisfied with the way I was progressing.

Morning all,

55° and clear this morning, although there was some fog on the way to the office. Supposed to get to the mid-70's today.

Nothing new on the train front as we had grandkids and now my dog is back for the next 2 weeks. Dog sitting while the youngest daughter, (we had triplets so she's the youngest by 30 seconds), and family are on their annual elk hunt.

Track plans can be hard to force, I prefer loading the buildings I will use some paper cut outs of the track or I have or the track loose and have a play until I think it looks good, plans often don’t take sizes into account or length of trains, so just have a play day, photograph a few ideas look back and consider which elements you like and try to combine elements and expand
me doing just that

looking at era, and potential placement, none of the track is set in stone, the ballast will be brushed up when happy

thru track and engine sheds
i later decided this coal town will go on a valley side with a big slope and is boxed awaiting an appropriate base

2 tracks at the back only
an established English village/small town market place with a small railway service
the car park can double for a market day
i often have 2 option either an era change or a whole building swop out get more out of less

Terry I totally agree, watch your son carefully, this amount of death will be very bad, plus losing his wife which I assume was worse than the suicidees reasons - I get you can’t expand or comment - but look at little positive things, a nice meal you know he likes, a positive phone all, a plan to a day to look forward to - getting his advice his help something that underpins him helping you with some you can’t do by yourself, and despite all the shitty stuff in your own life try and reflect it as a half full not half empty so he thinks that his future can end up with those too :(

Any burdens, you suffer which thankfully you can bemoan here as we will happily offer support try not to bemoan in his presence, do speak about any good things happening, I know this is like walking on egg shells because we should share with family but he has a grief period and he needs to move forward to get past it, can you rustle up a meeting with any old friends or school mates, or cousins and such and ask them to be positive and happy to see him, drag him to a baseball football game maybe, does he have a hobby can we encourage him to get into railway it is an easy pick up put down hobby for when peop,e are out of time or busy or just not in the mood, has he any skills that would help you with a little project he can do at his home, a little kit or weathering

thoughts to help, obviously to be ignored if you think…seriously?
regardless thoughts are with you and your poor son, if I lost my husband I would take a hard knock.

Good morning fellow modelers from dreary Wisconsin. Today Terry gets a CAT scan and I am the chauffeur. Middle of the day timing, too late for breakfast and too early for dinner. I’ll let her decide what she wants to do and where we eat.

Again, so sorry to hear of all the death and sickness members and their families are experiencing.

There will be no train room activity for the next few days. Too much in life going on.

Enjoy your day

Love your track work, and trackside scenery and weathering colour and texture are excellent and the clever wrap around papers of Wisconsin, and the lighting, is the lighting wired?nicely weathered rail stock too, I can see me stealing some ideas from this…..coughs I mean copying …

Good Morning Everyone. Clear and 57°, heading into the mid-80's today before returning to the lower 90's tomorrow.
So first night home was a good one for my wife, she slept 8 hours and even found her way to the bathroom unassisted, albeit with the light on. She is more mobile than she expected to be, but it does take her 5+ minutes to traverse the 60' walk from the couch to the bathroom. This morning we're expecting a drug delivery of the pair of antibiotics to arrive by courier, I believe that this will be a daily thing for 6-8 weeks. Then a visit from the home health care specialist, which may be daily for a few days and then twice a week thereafter. Today she will change the dressing, take a blood draw and who knows what else. If the courier arrives first, then she will administer the antibiotics through the PIIC tube dangling from Arlene's arm. Most of the time later, we will do that ourselves. I got the training yesterday. Me, I will be AWOL from 8:45 until about 10:00 for a dental appointment that was already postponed. Hoping that I'm home when the courier arrives as the drugs have to be signed for.

No breakfast today Flo, in advance of the teeth cleaning. But I'll take a large OJ.

Thanks for the likes and comments yesterday regarding my several posts, once again, too many to list but you know who you are.

I did not go to the train shed yesterday, as life elsewhere was more pressing. I hope that my townspeople didn't miss me. Let's see if I can find something in the archive that I haven't posted before, at least not recently.

Ken - How did the furniture delivery go?
Steve - Regarding your rant yesterday, I mostly agree. I do admit that I have a few cars with solid bearing trucks on the layout, when in my era they all should have roller bearing trucks. But they are not mixed on any cars. Technically they were still allowed on cars that were not interchanged and that's my story. Perhaps there are enough mis-matches that you can just swap trucks around and correct a few.
Tom O - I do believe as I may have posted previously, that hospitals do everything possible to prolong the stay by "paying patients", in order to line their pockets.
Thanks for the hints on the building coloring.
Joe - I also have some vintage Athearn and Roundhouse cars on the layout. Over the years, I have improved all of them with metal wheels, and some detailing and weathering. They all got Kadee #5's from the very beginning. It's amazing what a sharp lead pencil can do to make molded on grabs look like they're separately applied.

Monday night I heard quite a ruckus outside. It turns out that I had visitors from the north visiting and they were still here this morning. They are about 30 yards across the road in the recently harvested and plowed sorghum field. No doubt feasting on the spilled grain. There's probably 60-70 of them. It's unusual that they spend two days here.

Today is National Plus Size Appreciation Day, I guess that I was observing it early at the hospital yesterday.
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning.
So everyone is aware, Son is living in Florida, nearly 600 miles away. While we’d be happy to share a meal or company with him in this trying time, it’s impractical to do so. We can’t go there, as my wife no longer can travel.
He is planning to come visit us on the 14th.

Thank you very much. All lighting on the layout is fiber optics with much more needed. I do have to fix the overhead lights on the employee walk way in front of the wood chip pile. They are lighting the wood pile not the walkway.
Copy whatever you want I take ideas from everything I see.

Hope you are recovering well
Tom

Willie, good for your wife on the overnight. A caregiver is a hero but rarely honored. Take care of her.

I think I recognize a few of the geese. We have 2 ponds on our property and the town has a few. There are geese and ducks there 1/2 the Spring and all Summer. They are so messy with their droppings.

Enjoy your day

Thanks for that info. I didn’t realize he was so far away. Still, keeping in touch will go a long way.

Good morning Global Modelers even though Christian seems to be on hiatus. I miss his and Guy’s pictures of their daily surroundings.

What a difference a day makes. The daughter and hubby closed on their house this morning at 8. We transferred all but some acreage to them yesterday. We transferred to the son the apartments in Austin. Everything else is sold and we are officially retired from all aspects of business. We had decided and I am still trying to convince my brother that it is better to see the kids enjoy now then to wait to gift them things after we pass. Started the property management business in 1989, so 33 years as a side business that grew pretty big until my retirement in 2014 when we started selling off to staff managers. I am ecstatic but not so much Terry. It’s done, she will get over it.

The SIL will be back Friday and he will take some pictures of the slot track that I can post. We are waiting for the copper tape.

I am going to make a better effort of being in the train room but actually doing something while in there. Now that we are living in the lower level I will get into Terry’s space too much. She leaves Friday for Maui and I will join up after the 15th for a few weeks and come back. It will be at least a year before we think we will build again in Wisconsin. When we do though it will only be yards from the current house that is now the kids place. I will always have access to the train room and of course the pool.

Enjoy the day

Found this video and music after an interview of the Dobbie Brothers I saw on television....

Doobies are always good. This version is a bit different from the studio track. Good example of a rock based minor blues form! I was in an adult student band several years ago and we played this song ( at the private music school my kids attend/ed -- son doesn't any longer at the moment; daughter does).

Tom O - I do believe as I may have posted previously, that hospitals do everything possible to prolong the stay by "paying patients", in order to line their pockets.

Not to get political, but hospitals most definitely do sock it to the paying customer. But not to line their pockets -- to make up for all the non-paying customers or those on government programs that underpay the actual costs of providing the treatment*. My wife is an RN at a "non profit" hospital and tells me all sorts of stories. You can tell the paying customers because they pay attention, do what they are told, and try not to have to come back. Many of the non-paying/government program ones don't care since they are not paying, and don't follow instructions, and end up coming back time after time.

*government set reimbursement rates don't usually come close to covering the actual costs of providing many of the services and so they make it up by setting really high prices that the insurance companies negotiate down to just high prices, which makes up the missing costs.

Tom:

After seeing photos of your Wisconsin Valley and Terminal RR, I would of followed your construction techniques of a more narrow, shelf type layout to allow for more ease in doing the basic work and scenery. Keep the photos coming.

Your work is excellent!
