Why does trackwork have to be so tedious?

The speakers are self-contained, with two metal tabs coming out of the assembly to solder the wires on. I'd give it a 2 on a scale of 10. Soldering skills will help.Terry.....The new speakers sound really good! How easy was this to do?
That's all there is to it. Of course, you do need to make sure theere's room for the speaker, but since they are designed to go into a cell phone, they're pretty small.Terry,
So you just cut the existing speaker wires. and solder to the new speaker? These are really inexpensive. I may try one of my Walthers units to see if I can clean up the sound.
I am thinking that it is a bad idea to read older threads on this site. I was trying to find information on turn radius sizes and the first thread had a reference to Model Railroading Hobbyist. Hmmm, never seen this one before, got to take a look. Many hours later, downloads of all past issues, checking out the Article Index, and I still have not read the item about radius size. Starting on this hobby is like drinking water from a fire hydrant. At least I have a new way to keep me up late at night.
Not intending to rain on your parade, Terry, but another local source (to you) came up below that seller,, cheaper

These are the same speakers I replaced the stock ones used in Athearn's new release of the SD40's with Tsunami (now replaced with the Econami decoder since). All the sound comes out of that tiny rectangular hole on the side, so don't block it. I found that out when I left the speaker loose on top of the chassis and it moved over and rested against the inside of the shell. Your note about the sound from the Intermountain fitted ones answers my wonderings about the SD40-2 of theirs that I have. Running it in consist with the SD40, I can't make out if it's even making any sound, which is the complete reverse of the situation when the SD40 had it's original speaker.
Size is 53L x 15W x 5mm thick.
