Running Bear's Coffee Shop LIX

Sherrel, this year was the first that my wife didn't get a bill from them for estimated income tax and penalties. We haven't lived there since 2010, and she hasn't worked there since 2009. So, they've been trying to get her to pay her CA income tax for every year since. 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.And she hasn't worked since 2014. They also wanted her to pay CA income tax for the several years before we even moved to CA.

Good morning, y'all. 37° and cloudy with some rain later on. Not much going on here right now.

Eric - Good news to some extent. Have you been able to continue the chemo through all of the other ups and downs? It seemed to be having some positive results at the last chemo update.
No chemo right now. I have missed 2 weeks thus far. Haven't talked to the oncologist since last session. I don't know if the home nurses can give the chemo. Can't imagine why not since it's just a bunch of injections through the port in my right chest.

Good morning everybody ..... I'll have coffee and a pecan roll, please.

Here's what I was messing around with last night: Trying to make a "lens" for my Stewart F unit headlights so they won't look like an 18" diameter searchlight in photographs. This is only a proof-of-concept and rather crude, I'll need to borrow some hole-punchers and other specialty tools from a local friend who has a lot of those.

If I had the money to replace these with Genesis models I'd have done so long ago. But even then, I'd want to keep these things because they run like swiss watches and pull like tanks.

Ken .... I have attempted a similar headlight modification in my four Proto 2000 CB&Q E7's ..... The two beams in the lower headlight housing have light which blends together in the picture, but it is two beams of light. ... The upper two lights, red and clear, are controlled with functions of the decoder. ... My 4 P2K E7's do not have sound.

The next photo shows how a real CB&Q E7 looked. .... The upper round light housing had the twin beams with a mars light and red emergency brake light. .... The lower housing had twin headlight beams which were always on if the train was running forward.

I like the way this Genisis F unit came with the lights already installed. There is also a red light in the upper headlight for reverse. At least I don't have to mess wit this one. IMAG0913.jpg

Good morning fellers. Soooooo.....did some track work this morning. Now I replaced the one section simply put the loose rail I feared would cause a derail and another floor model in which I don't want. So now here we go. My Athearn RTR locomotives roll through with no hesitation. Their headlights however flicker like strobes. Only on the straight sections. Curves they stay lit and don't flicker. Put my Blue box U-boat on. Move it down the straight section I worked on. It's headlights don't flicker at all! Mind you it's running the same Athearn bulbs as the rtr units. Am I missing something? Is there something I'm overlooking? Could it be I need to clean my pickups for the rtr units? I know Athearn is huge on over lubing their locomotives. Perhaps it's gotten on to the pickups?

Afternoon All,

We have rain and thunderstorms today. It's supposed to stop about 7 PM, then a gradual cool down through the weekend. Did a couple of small repair jobs on the layout today.

Tomorrow is the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day. Having been stationed at Pearl for 15 years and seeing the memorial almost daily really brings the attack home, not to mention that as a sailor it is ingrained in our brains (I hope you understand what I am trying to say).

Sherrel- I do not understand everything that is going on with your computer but can a browser change possibly help? I switched to Firefox and the change is amazing on performance. The government always wants their money immediately, but when they owe they take their sweet ass time.

Terry- Nice save.

Louis- Great looking art.

Eric- Great news. I'm glad you are finally busting out.

Ken- Interesting project. Bachmann uses that type of headlight display on their PRR FA2. If you look on their schematics (online) you can get that part number and try to order them from them. They couldn't be that much and it might save your sanity. Just a thought.

Johnny- Bench work is looking good. Are you planning any peninsulas?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt - I was in the US Navy for 4 years, early 1970's - visited Pearl once and you're right - it really impacts you.

Yes on the peninsula question. In that photo, we're building a 4-foot wide peninsula from the left wall to that first post you can see on the right, and another 4-foot wide peninsula from post to post, with a turn-around at that far post.

Curt, you made me check my calendar, to make sure I hadn't missed a day.
Tomorrow is December 7...
At least you know people are reading your posts.

The Pearl Harbor Memorial is quite moving. We had stopped in Pearl in 1969 on our trip back to Florida from the middle east for some repair work to the ship and refueling. It was just a few years old then. We visited it again a few years ago and they have done a beautiful job on the museum.

My father was on a cruiser on escort duty for the carriers when Pearl Harbor was bombed. It was very hard for him to get over what it looked like. I have some of the photos he took during the war and they are something to see. His ship took a bruising, getting hit by a bomb and being torpedoed. He sure could tell some war stories. He was an Aviation Machinists Mate working in the catapult aircraft. They pulled into Pearl the day after the bombing and they removed anything they could from the USS Nevada, refueled and were gone back to sea in just a matter of hours.

His ship was the USS Chester.

I've got a drawing of the Arizona as it sits now. My buddy picked it up when he went to Hawaii. I'm trying to find the right frame for it. If these young kids now knew half of what those guys did then at the same age.....

OMG .. Everyone! TERRY just spent some time with me on the phone. He reminded .. and taught .. Me several things that I did not know and had forgot others about this iPad. Now it is working Sooo much better and faster than it was.

I tell you .. The man is a genius !!!

Sherrel, I maybe able to answer. If I'm not mistaken I think it has to do with the guns of the ship, and the armor layout if I'm right. William.

Awesome photo Chet. I thank you for your Dad's Service. If truth be told, I doubt many in this generation fully appreciate the sacrifice that our veterans did for us. I will always be proud of those who have served this country. William.

Chet: Wow! Small world. I grew up in the ship's namesake city, Chester, PA, and rode my bike over to the Market Street Wharf, to see the Chester pass it's namesake city for the last time in the summer of 1959 when it was towed from Naval Base Philadelphia to the scrapper. For years, the ship's bell and other artifacts were displayed at a city park.

Sherrel: The difference between a light (CL) and a Heavy (CA) Cruiser was size (displacement), and firepower. Many of todays destroyers are larger than WW2 Heavy Cruisers. According to NavSource Web site, the Chester was initially a light cruiser (CL27), but was reclassified as a Heavy Cruiser (CA27). The Chester's main battery consisted of 9 8" Guns.

Hello Eric. Just wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten about you. I have told CJ about some of the the things you have had to deal with. I hope you are doing okay, and getting better. I have been busy with some issues at work,as well as looking after my mom. I'm still working on my table, just haven't much desire to work on it however. Even been working on a re projects here and there, but not really doing much. Carey is doing okay, although I don't think he's to much right now. I hope that you have a great Christmas, and I hope you get well soon. Hang in there dude. Happy Holidays sir. Take care. William( L&N Castle ).
