Ties

I hate ties

I refuse to wear a phallic symbol around my neck. They serve no useful purpose except to cover up buttons. I wasn't aware buttons were offensive enough to warrant covering them up. If so, I'm happy to wear a mock neck pullover without buttons. No tie needed.

Nuff said on that!

Made a run to the big box hardware and got some new wheels for the cart. I'm glad I did.

Snazzy. Push or pull now.

This is an emergency use only. I won't be getting it out often. And I'll have to cut some wheel chocks at some point so it doesn't roll as it vibrates. I'll test the stability after I get back from vacation.

I'm sure nobody told you, but make sure you run it for a while every4-6 weeks, so it doesn't get gummed up from sitting. Even LP powered ones need to be run, though not as often as gas powered ones.

I'll wear a tie when decorum calls for it. I wore one for years until the "official" workplace uniform transitioned from shirt and tie to golf shirts. As for as a phallic symbol I never thought of a tie as that. However I have walked up behind a bald guy with a turtleneck on.;)

* Regarding New Jersey:

I've been to the land of the Smogberry Trees before. Kind of dreary.

But one time I was invited to someones house for a party when I lived in NH and it was in Western NJ and we drove out there and it was very nice, from a geographical and environmental perspective. So I guess the Smogberries only grow in the NE corner of the state. (Unfortunately the politicians and their laws govern the whole state).

* Regarding school uniforms:

As a parent, I agree, they're nice. My son went to a charter school and they had a uniform. Not as rigorous as the Catholic uniforms it seems. My daughter also went there for several years but has transitioned to a public HS without uniform

They basically had to wear a polo shirt (couple different colors) with the school emblem embroidered on it. Pants, skirts, or modest shorts of certain colors and styles, etc. It was nice to not have to worry about school clothes but with my daughter's current HS with no uniform requirements is OK as she is not super picky. She is "fashion conscious" but only internally for herself. Not so much with what is current style etc. It just has to match her internal aesthetics. So I don't worry too much.

Good morning all. A glorious, sunny day, yet the forecast says heavy rain.
Recent challenges overcome.
Son and family on holiday in Yorkshire.
Daughter and family in Italy on a three weeks sightseeing. They, like us, love visiting the country. On the visit they will meet up with Amanda and family (our daughter's Godmother.)

Back later

Morning all,

75° and clear this morning, humidity makes it feel like like you just stepped out of the shower. High of 100° with heat index of 105°+.

I have an aunt who is a nun based out of Wisconsin. She's mom's older sister. Her youngest brothers (They're 6 and 4 years older than myself) and I started calling her that when I was 12ish. Yes I think I picked it up from them. This was years before the Blues Brothers came out.

That reminds me of a movie!
I love the Blues Brothers.

Are you sayin you skipped 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades?
Yes I was just that smart...😉 Actually I attended from the 3rd though the 8th grades. We then moved to Kansas where there was no Catholic High School within 40 miles.

Good morning. One of the few arguments after the 2 kids were of school age was the clothes Terry purchased for them. The Catholic school in our closest town was not highly rated, barely should have qualified as a school, or they would have been sent there and had uniforms. I asked one day after another clothing expedition what the hell did all that cost and regret it to this day! The basic response was never u f…ing mind. I think the clothes thing was Terry rebelling against the Catholic uniforms she wore for 12 years of education. Clothes are still not a cost topic in our house. The Catholic school uniforms I wore from 1st through 8th grade were so convenient. Thankfully my wife and kids were not designer clothes conscious or it could have been worst. Terry taught in the school system next to ours and later was an administrator there but she never wanted our kids in the same school district she would teach or work in. She turned down a few job offers from our local district while the kids were there. So instead of driving 6 miles to work she drove 22.

I tested negative Monday and Tuesday but last night and this morning the tests are positive again. I feel better than Thursday and Friday but still very weak.

The windows and roof are in. 4 windows still to be cladded and 4 doors to get new brick mould and cladded. The crews have been very neat and clean up after each window is complete. They will be done today and then the sales guy comes out for the final walk through and inspection. Next up is interior painting and a power wash of the siding.

Enjoy the day

Ahhhh, the COVID tests.
I think it was about 8 months ago, I developed very itchy eyes and sneezing. Finally went to the primary care. Without a test, the doctor said it sounded very much like COVID and I should get the jab. I declined the vaccine and went home. I mentioned it to my daughter, and she said it sounded more like reaction to pollen. Said I should try Benadryl. Went and got a small packet of the Benadryl capsules and it cleared up my discomfort within an hour.
So, either Benadryl is a cure for COVID or I didn't actually have it and the doc was only pushing the vaccine.

Good Morning All. Clear and 79°, might hit 101° again today. Hot and dry with heat advisory etc., etc., etc. May see 106° beginning next week. Surprisingly the pool temperature is not getting above 84° even in the late afternoon. Quite unusual for this time of year.

Yesterday saw a bit of an increase in outdoor activity after Monday's day of rest. I did some mowing and split a few logs. Then there was PT in the afternoon. Yesterday's session was physically tough, but I recovered by the time that I got home. I still haven't decided if it is doing me any good. Right now, the sciatica is not being an issue, but is it the steroid shot the doctor gave me, the stretching exercises that I was already doing, the new workouts or the muscle relaxers that the doctor prescribed? Or is it a combination of all of the above? I'm only taking the muscle relaxers 3 times a week and no pain relievers right now.

Today I will resume tornado tree trimming.

I didn't make it out to the train shed yesterday, after the PT I hit the pool before fixing supper later on.
So let's go to the archives for various ATSF pictures.

Patrick - Best of luck with the financial guy. My wife and I disagreed for years on how much risk to take with the retirement accounts. I am more willing to gamble a bit. So years ago, we opened a Roth IRA in her name and keep it in somewhat low interest guaranteed money market funds. So now she's happy making her $3 a day. Meanwhile I manage our other 4 accounts and I am happy making 12% a year on them. Yes, some years have not been good, 2018 for example, I only made around 2%, but 2023 saw a gain of over 26%. She has taken notice lately and after 2 years of her playing around on some theoretical stock market app, she finally decided that maybe we should buy actual stocks instead of the ETF's that I favor. So I jumped in a week ago Monday after the market bloodbath and purchased some NVIDIA and AMD per her recommendation. I still maintain a risk ratio of 35:65 overall, but I think often about how much more I could have made in 2023 if my risk ratio was higher. My only advice is to put as much in ROTH accounts as allowable, as under current rules, all gains and withdrawals are tax-free; and there is no RMD required. Ironically, in 2025 when I have to take an RMD from another account (I already have to take one from one account), our income including Social Security will be greater than any of our working years and I'll have to start paying taxes again.
Troy - Can't say that I ever wondered who was the worst Commanding General in the American Civil War. It probably wasn't Tim Walz though!
I also never heard of ties being considered phallic symbols. However my class regularly caught hell because of our innuendo regarding our graduating class year of '69. After all, this was a Catholic school with priests and nuns.
Louis -
As a parent I loved uniforms!
So did mine! Some of my stuff was handed down to my younger brothers, even though the next one was 6 grades behind me!
Mike - All girls at our high school had to wear the mandatory plaid skirts. Some of the nuns carried rulers with them to be sure that they were long enough. Since our high school was co-institutional with a boys division and a girls division, classes were not mixed until I was in 12th grade. That was only because either there weren't enough students taking some subjects, or enough teachers qualified to teach the class. In my case it was French; there were a few others like trigonometry. All of a sudden, the girls had to learn to "sit like a lady" in the mixed classes.

Nothing special about today, just an average hump day. Everybody have a wonderful Wednesday.

Greeting and howdy there people with fear of penguins and rulers!

Got word that mom gets to move across the hall today or tomorrow. Unfortunately, one of the women in that room died a couple of weeks ago. She knew both the girls in that room, since they were from the same building she lived in prior. Unfortunately, the new roomie is very hard of hearing. So stimulating conversation will look like a "you're old" greeting card.

And I have to run in and pick up whatever mail from medicaid/medicare she's received. and today's the only open afternoon to make the three hour round trip.

Good afternoon all. Still a glorious, sunny day.
Dawn has had a few sleepless nights, so she has had a long lie in. Woke up just before noon.

Uniforms & Ties.

Always had to wear them from Senior School and working life. They never bothered me as it was the way things were done. Apart from wearing a bow tie on occasions, my ties are packed away. The black tie I have is worn when required.

School uniforms these days. You know children are from a poor area if the school uniform is a dark blue skirt/trousers with a white shirt/top. In more affluent areas the children wear clothes in brighter colours; greens. reds or very pale blue.

Time for tea. Flo. Afternoon cream tea please.
