Good evening. Nice place here Mel. Give me a Can of Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale. It was Muggy today, 92°, only down to 79° now. Rainfall today, first in 15 days, a paltry 0.01" These are the "Dog Days of Summer". Today's good news, the Orioles won. Today's bad news, the Yankees also won. Not much else going on, (That we can talk about, here).

Vacation day 1 and our national day today!
atm its raining, but thats great, because rain = no fireworks!

i mean i love fireworks, but i also hate it because of all the animals. so for now iam okay with the rain.
had a great idea when laying in bed this morning for the riverbed on my layout, so i will try this out later today.

@KriegslokBR52 thnx again for those pictures. the colors of that canyon are just mindblowing. and also i think the posters from the past had so much more style than the ads we see today.

thnx for the coffee by the way.
read you all soom.

cheers jay

Dude, Terry, you jumped the gun early!!!
We were having thunderstorms here, with the power cutting off and on. Plus, I didn't feel like staying up until midnight to start the new place at midnight. Plus, there is a forum member from Europe that likes to start new coffee shop threads when it's midnight "his" time. Plus, if somebody has a person on their ignore list, and that person starts a thread, the ignorer never sees the thread.

Good morning Crew. It’s going to be wet on the golf course

Or not! As long as the lightning stays away I’m fine in the rain. But looking at the radar track, I think today will be fine. As usual the weather projections are confusing, the 90%+ chance of over night rain didn’t happen!

1st day of August should be interesting. I have a right front tire that shows a pressure change on the info screen in the car. Measured it Tuesday night when it came on after pulling over on the road. Wednesday morning measured it again and it’s the same PSI. Last night coming home from the grandson’s hockey game it popped up on the info screen again. Measured it in the garage and it was 2 PSI lower than Wednesday morning. At 8 I will measure it again and drive over to the Firestone dealer and hopefully they will look at it. I actually would prefer they find a leak in the tire rather than be told it’s the monitor. Big difference in price for that repair.

Yes, I have reset the pressure levels per the manual!

There will be no trains today. Tire center, golf and then the final event pay out banquet is the agenda for today. I’m hopeful that my payouts will cover my golf costs this week. I have the last 2 outings and that’s always a good feeling.

Good morning everyone!

Had another batch of rain move through this morning, but has since cleared out.

Finally did a little layout work last nigh. I decided to use USG Easysand 45 for the skim coat on my mountains. On my N scale layout, I used plaster. The working time was too fast to do any big areas at one time. This time I wanted to color it, so if scratched the white wouldn't show through. I did a test with Quikcrete brown coloring. I'm glad i did a small batch on a scrap piece of foam. As of this morning it was still very soft and I could still dent it with a thumb. It defiantly changed the characteristics of the hot mud. I guess I will just stay the course and do it the old way.

Happy August everyone, be safe!

Good Morning All. Clear and 78°. Expecting a high of 103° today, I saw 99.5° yesterday. The usual heat advisory and forecast of hot & dry for the rest of the month. A typical August!

Back to the regular grind yesterday morning with another week's worth of firewood cut, but not yet stacked. Then came an "emergency" call from my out of town wife. She had forgotten to remind me that the Accura's registration expired at the end of July, so I had to search through the bill/statement pile and find the licensing information. Then a trip to the county seat (22 miles away) to have it inspected first. New windshield wipers needed, no problem. As an extra service, they check all fluid levels and filters. Needed a new A/C filter due to a rodent infiltration at some point; probably over the winter when we didn't use it for a few weeks. Again, no problem except the time needed to clean the nest out. Then off to the license plate place to get that taken care of. All in all, it took 1.75 hours to deal with, with the 45 minute round trip included. There went most of the afternoon.
Today is the weekly grocery trek, my wife already texted a partial list. She's bored and has been looking at recipes to fix after she gets home. I am told that there will be additional items this morning. Vitamin Shop and gas are already on the itinerary as well.

I got a bit sidetracked out in the train shed yesterday. I ran trains a bit but what got my attention more, was another result of the excessive humidity in there when the roof leaked. I had printed many 2D background structures on heavy paper and used them as part of the backdrop in a few areas. Here's what I have been finding.

Some that I had sprayed with Dull Coat came through in better condition, but will eventually need replacing.

So I spent time looking through my computer files and at the thread on the forum where I got them to begin with. Took some time but I printed some new ones.

Some are smaller than scale to provide some forced perspective in some areas.

Mac - You've got a good eye for photos. Thanks for the postings yesterday. Beautiful country and I love the painted ads on the sides of the buildings. I need to remember to bring my camera the next time that I go to our county seat and take some photos there.
Patrick - I don't think the density of your corn planting was the issue. The short plants were probably because you used old seed. The dry ears were the farmer's fault as you admitted.
Tom O - Even though it seemed that we lived paycheck to paycheck when all three kids were in college at the same time, part of the monthly budget was automatically paid directly into the 401k, without fail.
As for aggressiveness in investing, I sometimes wish that I should be more aggressive than I am. My wife wishes that I would be less aggressive! If she had her way, it would all be sitting in savings accounts or money market funds, the interest wouldn't even cover the cost of inflation. She would never let up if I told her that we lost $8600 one day last week, but it will almost just as quickly come back. I keep about 35% in ETF's.
Shortwrench - Thanks for the comment. I like to have small scenes such as that scattered about the layout.

Today is the birthday of the late Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. He would have been 82 if he had not died of a heart attack in 1995. And of course as Jay has pointed out, today is National Day in Switzerland.
Everyone have a great day.
