Hi,
I saw this in a Model Railroad Hobbyist article and had to give it a try. Just used some wooden match sticks cut to tie length. I soaked them in a mix of india ink and alcohol. About a 1 part ink 4 parts alcohol. Let them dry for a couple of days, then used a 50/50 white glue water mix to put it together.

Easy and pretty cool.

I wish it was my idea. Pics below are from the Model Railroad Hobbyist website. Not sure if it's legal to post their pics here, but fully crediting the source regardless. You'll notice that the pics they show do not use full ties. I guess whoever wrote the 'how to' didn't want to waste good ties and used scraps except for the ends and the top layer.

Really easy. I put it together while watching TV one evening. Took my time letting each layer dry. I'll probably make a few more and place them around my layout. Might make a good flat car load too :)
