Hi Guys.
I have been given a couple of enclosed trailers, the 18 wheeler type.
I want to turn a couple of flat cars into piggyback flats.
I'm having trouble finding pictures showing the hardware that the trailer is fixed to (the fifth wheel end) if I have the correct terminology?
I'm doing HO.
Any ideas??
Thanks Mac

the 5th wheel parts from an old Athearn 86' flat would be a good starting point. it was designed to be either up or down.

Yep it's called a fifthwheel.

Some roads called that Piggyback Service. FlexiVan service was a term used by the Penn Central. New Haven called it Trailiner Service. Whatever a particular road called it the general reference was TOFC - Trailer On Flat Car. A search of those names on the RR Pics site should turn up some photos. Ideally you will find cars with no trailer on board so the 5th wheel detail is visible.
