I finally got my DCC system and have been running a train around. One of my turnouts is causing a short in the diverging position. Low speeds are fine, but at higher speeds it shorts out. Looking at the turnout it looks fine. Nothing seems different than any of my others... how do I go about trouble-shooting this issue?
When I just finished troubleshooting a couple on my newly laid track, it was just the opposite. Mine would go through at high speed, but short at low speed. Ocassionally, it would short at high speed too, but the flywheel momentum would keep it going and it would just restart.
Just for the heck of it, take a close look at the couplers. If one is hanging down just a bit too far, it could be shorting as the loco goes through the turnout.
I love DCC, but it SURE is picky about everything being absolutely perfect. Not to say that sloppy is okay, but there is no room for error at all it seems.
I think I figured out the problem... there is a piece of the switchey part (the moving part) that is bent so it sticks up. At high speeds this is causing the locomotive to jump and land wherever it wants... it hasn't derailed, just lands in a spot that causes a short.
Next issue though: is it possible to turn on directional headlights in advanced consist mode? When I consist 2 engines (bought another at the train show today! WOOT) I hit the headlight button and nothing happens. It is consisted just fine but no lights?
