If I had only gotten back into HO modeling years ago I could've had a massive layout. I have a back garage behind our house that must've been built before the current garage thats attached ot the house. It probably measures about 20x20 and has no ceiling, just the pitched roof. I'de love to be able to setup a small layout, well maybe i'll put up the 4x8 table again. But with the roomates (mom, 2 sisters) moving to N.C probably by end of this coming spring i dont want to do anything big and then have to tear it all down again.

I had a crude drawing of what i'd do to the back garage but someone threw it away. Was going to be a model of the NYSW jersey division.
Anyway here's some pics to see just how large of a layout is possible in here.

Old 4x8 table top with cutout to get to trains on opposite side when it was in basement.

And the wooden work bench thats inside that could be used as a small layup yard and a good straight away for an eventual uturn.

if the garage is 20 x 20, why not do a 20 x 10 ( half of it ) or maybe 10 x 15, with all that space 8 x 4 is a waste.

Once cleaned U will notice more its potential.

i know once its cleaned i'll realize how big/small i could go. but if the house goes on the market come feb. whats the point of trying to build such a huge layout. if the house wasn't going to be sold and wasn't getting married next october, trust me it would be a nice layout.

GETTING MARRIED?

Buy all the things you need for a layout on the quick, or else afterwards all ur funds will be going in donation to the house needs :S and I know what I'm talking about. When you get married the priest says you share everything, but he doesn't mention the percentage of sharing :o

First priority is the house and family, all that's rest is for your hobby ( meaning very little ) ;)

Good luck :D

yes, +1. Get all the mrr stuff PRIOR to the marriage.

My wife is my CFO (chief financial officer) so all mrr purchases must be run by her (or persuaded out of her, more likely) haha.

Congrats on the marriage. We got hitched in August of this year, AND bought a house. Hock! Woohoo!
