not very MRR realted post but it seems light today so i'll post this up. kinda got long
yet another hobbie of mine used to be computer gaming. somehow the fun is gone and between the kid, all kind of household projects, gardening (i actually grew nice bunch of tomatoes this year), trains, flight simulation controls project, RC tank project i find myself not shooting marines/arabs in call of duty for several month now and my nephews have my xbox for over a year.i was happy as an addict that finaly managed to gather enough willpower and quit but now i'm back on crack! of course it is not my fault (why would i blame myself? lol), the responsible party here is first and foremost Jim. He decided that he is going to mention "the evil GTA4" in our "what do you like about model railroading" post. And then local Wallmart decided to mislabel a copy with 10$ price tag and put it on the shelf
so now i'm a proud owner.
with all major studios going for quantity rather then quality this release (over a year old actualy but still) is very refreshing. amazingly done story and the characters that are full of character. the humor is the same type of cynical satyre/humor that insults simply everybody.just like in "team america" cartoon, developers laugh at simply everything (although liberals/democrats get hit the most IMO). my most favorite 2 radistations in game is both republican and democrat talk shows.
you simply got to love (or bitterly hate) the "Statue of Happiness", holding a styrofoam coffee cup in place of a torch and featuring the Smiling likeness of Hillary Clinton. tablet reads "Send us your brightest, your smartest, your most intelligent, Yearning to breathe free and submit to our authority, Watch us trick them into wiping rich people's asses, While we convince them it's a land of opportunity."
statue is said to have been presented to the United States of America in 1886 by France to mark "100 years free from British food and spelling".
and this kinda stuff is everywhere.
as far as violence, the environment game is set is grossly exaggeration (obviously). as i previously said - The game is only as violent as you are!! it is your choice whether you going to go on rampage and destroy gobs of cars and waste miriads of people. you might go for it or not. if you do no need to complain it is the game that is violent because its actually the player
the only problem as i see it is purley technical, game requires extreamly beefy system to play normaly. and the DRM is simply draconian (bastards).
worth the 10$ IMO, but probably not 20.
discuss (if you feel like)
BTW, GTA San andreas featured in-game "mini-game". palyer could drive either passenger or freight train between stations. in case of passangers the idea was to visit as many stations as possible in allocated time with full stops at platforms to load / unload passengers. took a while to accelerate and stop a train and the task was to find most appropriate speed to get to point of destination fast but without derailing on sharp turns or overshooting stations.
