I just didn't introduce myself before posting.

I'm Mike, and I'm not retired. I'm in my 20s. Finally have a home, and the wife is going to help me with my layout (I told her she's in charge of scenery, because she's good with crafty stuff).

I chose N scale because I've used N before and I can cram a lot into a 4'x8' table.

I'm in the Sarasota area of FL.

Welcome Mike,, can i send my wife for MRR lessons

Hi Mike,
Welcome go to have you join the forum, there lots of info here and a great bunch of folks, a couple of ladies too!

Welcome aboard, Mike. Having a wife who helps with the "crafty" stuff wlll be a big help. You'll be surprised at how much stuff she can dig up for the layout at craft stores like Michael's and you don't have to suffer the embarrassment of sneaking around the aisles hoping no one recognizes you. :)

Oh, she's dragged me into Michaels before....it's nothing new to me, I'm married. I guess as long as you're with a woman you're 'validated' haha.

Yeah, I'm expecting she'll come up with all sorts of good ideas.

Welcome to the forum! How do you convince your wife to do that? The most I can get my wife to do is finance a twice a year locomotive purchase (Birthday & Christmas).

Umm, yeah, it's something like that. :) I can usually convince my wife to stop at Michael's to look at prints and frames while I sneak off over to the other aisles and get more Modge Podge, 50 cent acrylic paint, and any other things that look like they will look good on the layout. I found some strings of Christmas lights bulbs that look like they were made for one of those scrapbook things but they will be just right to decorate Main St. the day after Thanksgiving. Not only do they look cool but it was 99 cents for a string of 25 bulbs. Lots of interesting stuff at Michael's as long as you can keep your wife otherwise occupied. :D

actually, I think if she goes into michaels and sees all that stuff that can be used on the layout, she'll have more of a field day than me!

Welcome aboard! So I am sure you are aware of the Sarasota Model RR Club?
They have all gauges there...

I live in Bradenton. I just went to Ft Myers to a NMRA convention and that was good fun!

yep, I'm aware of them, and I plan on attending the operations on tuesday! Really interested to see the layouts and stuff, get some ideas.

I know the 'first coast', I was raised just south of there on the 'space coast' :D
