Well, I am attempting something and guess not sure how I will feel if it don't turn out the best. I have this RED train, unsure of model, but am sure DM&E doesn't run one. But oh well. I am turning that RED loco into a DM&E anyways. So far this is what I got.Need to layer yelow again but think it will represent. Hope ya like...
Is that tape that's still on after you painted the stripe? If so, get it off now. Leaving the tape (looks like regular Scotch tape?) will cause the adhesive to set and then peel off the blue paint underneath it. you need to use new tape each time you add another coat of yellow. I don't know what steps you used when you painted this but having a coat of red or gray oxide primer first, painting the yellow stipe, and then painting the rest of the blue when the yellow paint was completely dry would have yeilded the best results.
Jim, thats odd, never had that problem here. However I would say the yellow would have been smarter first.
You've never had a problem with leaving tape, especially Scotch tape, on a new paint job too long and then had it pull off part of the underlying paint when it was removed? You've been a lucky guy then.

The best way to remove the tape is to pull it straight back over itself.
I've stopped bothering with mask-painting. I spray paint onto a finished sheet of Testors decal film, cutout the shape/length I need, then apply the dried paint as a decal.
Dang Ken, you're a brilliant man.
Great solution there ken! I am going to have to try that.
