New Train layout 6-1-23

I didn't have enough track space for any Boxcars of Grain cars, so I had to lay them on their sides in a long shelf above the work bench. There's a total of 80 of these. I put 68 Coal cars on the layout & 25 tanks cars & loaded Flats & Gon Loads of 42. I'll have to add a large 16ft table later for a giant Yard to hold everything. There's also 18 Diesel Dummies sitting on the layout & a bunch of other stuff including 65 powered Diesels.

Pulled out all the Boxes of Scenery material this afternoon. Total of 8 Banana Boxes full. I've collected about 150 Pine Cones out of the yard to make Tree's out of later.

I've got a lot done on the layout, but can't post any pictures since MS did away w/their Photo Editing Site & I haven't been able to find a free easy Web Site to put pictures on my computer so I can post them here in the Group. 9/8/23.
If you can download them to your computer you can simply copy and paste them to the forum, I've also emailed them to myself from my phone on occasion too.

I finally found some 1" Pink insulation foam at Home Depot yesterday that I'll have to get to make mountains. I wanted 2", but no one in Ga. uses it like Florida did & they want to much to ship it to me, so, before the end of the week I'll have to go buy some & get it cut in half or break it in half to fit in my 2011 Nissan Cube. The 1" is $31.85 per 4 by 8ft sheet. Then I'll go to Walmart & get some Quilt Batting for the cover. Down in Florida I never had to buy the 2" stuff because all the large Govt. buildings used it on the outside of their buildings & I always got their Scrap for free. I figure 3 or 4 sheets will be enough.
You might look in your area to see if there is an insulation-making company. I gave up on Home Depot and Lowes, and found an insulating board maker locally. I bought a bulk lot of 1 inch and 2 inch sheets- much cheaper than the retailers. Good luck. I used a lot of the 1 inch for mountains- just cracked the board, got automatic textures from the exposed edges and caulked it together, then paint and Woodland Scenics stuff.

Still haven't found a way to download any Pictures on here yet. So, until I do I'll just hang in the balance. I did run a consist of 35 flat cars w/loads yesterday & had a lot of shorts in the electrical & as soon as I saw those 3 engines jerking back & forth I knew what the problem was. I started checking the Ohms on each axle of every car for non insulated Intermountain axle sets. Found 8 axles(wheels)that were not insulated on 8 different flats. So, I'll be sure to check all my wheels again before I install them on anything.

My Niece came by the house last night to download my newest Pictures to the Group & helped me get an easy way for me to do it. Hope I remember how to do it next time. Here's some new Projects that I've done in the past couple of months. New facia boards on the inside of the layout. Unpainted & one picture of them painted.

1st picture is a new Coal loading building for the Dragon Coal Company & on the other side I will have conveyors down to a new Coal Company office. This one is made out of Legos & painted flat black w/a rattle can. Next pic is a rough tunnel opening for the freight lines. next picture is the other end of the tunnel for the freight line & it is also made out of painted Legos. The last Pic is of my Control Center. The MRC 9000 controls the Passenger tracks & the MRC CM20 that is under that shelf is what I power all of the Freight Lines. I installed 16 Phone line sockets so I can go anywhere on the layout to fix any problems while the trains are running. The 2 control boxes that are the same are MRC sound systems for Diesel sounds & Horn sounds. 9-26-23

I started cutting the hardboard(1/8th" thickness)today to put around the layout on the outside for retainer walls to keep from trains falling 40 inches to the floor in derailments. I'm painting the smooth side of the hardboard Blue latex & the outside will be the rough brown color. I'll post pics of those later.

In case I didn't post a picture of my Trainroom Entrance, here's one. The building was finished on the 1st of July inside & out & in just these short months I have done quite a bit to the layout, but I usually work 7 days a week on it if I don't have a lot of doctors appointments. You get them when you get over 80 yrs old & now I'm 85.👽

The 1st picture is the CM20 Walkaround Throttle transformer w/Memory & the next 2 are phone plugs where I plug into the walkaround throttle. I started last week recessing all my toggle switch's into the Facia Board. The end of the Toggle is flush w/the board. All of the Turnout electric controls will be added next to each Toggle & they won't be recessed. I have about 35 to 40 Toggles to add & about 10 to 15 turnout controls. I'm using all Atlas Turnout controls to Bachman EZ track. I finally figured out how to add pictures to my computer. Right now I am helping a friend redo his O Scale Layout. 10-18-23

Thanks for the Memories. That had to be back when I was building the layout in the back of the shop in the early to mid 90's I haven't had that phone number in many years. No, I don't remember you. I still have 2 of my GAP railroad engines that Will Landers sent me when I started the layout in 2017. Will Landers use to paint, Detail & decal all my engines from 1995 to 2012. One time I sent him 12 engines that had to be stripped, painted & decaled. Those looked just like factory pained engines when they came back.
