There was a time when I first thought about methods to use for building my new layout in a shed, when I definitely consider foam construction like you show. In fact I had collected a whole bunch of info and articles on foam construction.
There were 2 items that changed my mind:
1) the first was a minor one, but very thick (think HO layout) pink form was not so readily available in FL.
2) Since I was going to build a double deck layout I was very concerned about the lower deck taking any abuse when I needed to get to things on the upper deck.
3) The of course I ended up choosing to build 'cantilevered' decks which were not foam friendly.
But other than a few drawbacks i think the foam construction makes a lot of sense. looking forward to following your progress.
I really want to see how you are going to build that one train station,...the one in NC I believe it was.
