So who makes the best cattle cars? I looked on Athearn's web site but didn't see any. I really like their reefers.

Check e-bay for the older Athearn Blue Box stock cars. The details are very good and you can usually get them at a reasonable price. I'm assumig you want modern era stock cars with steel ends rather than the all wood trussrod stock cars that Josh's link shows.

Well I didn't look very good on Athearn's web site the first time because
I just found some there. Nice 6 packs for about $80.

Now that you mention it, I got a six pack of Athearn UP stock cars with the oxide red sides and silver roofs for about $40 off e-bay. They are sweet cars with nice metal wheeled trucks and (I think) McHenry couplers but, other than that, they are exactly the same as the BB Athearn stock car. If you can find some Athearn BB stock cars for less than $10 on e-bay, they are still a good deal

That's a good deal depending on the final price but be prepared for some work. They REALLY are kits in that you have to put them together with lots of tiny pieces that go flying across the room on a regular basis. :) They build up into nice cars but, for the amount of work involved, I'd still go for an "RTR" Athearn BB stock car.

i got a couple of Athearn stock cars from my LHS for about $12 a piece.. just make sure you check your trucks and wheelsets as that was the car i was having trouble with derailing because of a twisted truck assembly. then again, i suppose you should check all your rolling stock for that problem eh?...

can you tell im new?

you mean something like this?
