Hi,

Which make and model of a dc (direct current) speed contoller works the best at LOWER train speeds. Primarily from 0 rpm to crawling speeds. Need suggestions of which one works best There are many makes and models out there. The controller I have starts the motor slowly then suddenly it goes into a very hi controllable speed range.

All suggestions welcomed.

Thanks, Tom

If you'd be willing to assemble your own unit, the Cooler Crawler is very good and not too difficult. It was designed by Rich Weyand but originally based on earlier models. I built one and it worked exactly as advertised. One feature that this design has, and I don't think anyone understands exactly how it works, is that it uses back-EMF feedback. That means that if the loco stalls or almost stalls, the output voltage rises. You can put a voltmeter on the track and prove it.

Jeffery is correct about the MRC Tech units. I also use an MRC 9500 & a CM20 MRC walkaround. I can turn the voltage down to practicall zero & you can just barely see the loco moving. My CM20 has a nudge switch that I leave on all the time. I also use Momentum on both power supplies quite often.
The newer digital units that have been out for a few years work better than mine I have been told. It's all in your preference, But, I would highly recommend MRC for all over your needs.

Tom,
It's really not a good idea to crosspost the same question to two different parts of the forum since we now have two different discussions going on the same subject. As you can see, the other guys here have given you basically the same information I did about MRC power packs. Please read the rest of my posts in the General section about DCC.
