Hi guys,
I need to find something that is very similar to the roof on this Vollmer station kit
Im talking about the part of the roof that looks like a bunch of "windows" or "openings" that run the length of the kit along the roofline. Its like a square with a triangle roof with all the openings on the very top of the roof.
Im going to be building a 6' Electric Furnace for a client starting here after the new year, and he has requested something similar to the one in this kit to go atop the Electric Furnace. I would just buy a bunch of these Vollmer kits, but it would get rather pricey considering i only need the top part of the roof line.
Does anyone know of a kit that has something similar to this?
Thanks in advance
Josh, there's no picture and no link that I can see. Something seems to be going wrong with your links lately.
Jim, that's because he tried to hotlink the image, and Walthers does not allow that.

Did they start doing this recently? I have always posted pictures from the Walthers site on the forums and never had a problem with them not working before

And a word of caution, the forum doesn't allow it without permission of the owner (in this case Walthers.
Please be careful displaying photos, if they're not your own please indicate you have permission
Thanks
Willis
Here is the larger version of the kit, which is sold out at Walthers. I could probably just use 2 of these kits, but i dont know where i could get them?

Anyone know where i could get 2 of these kits in the link above or get something similar to the roof as i described in the firist post?

Any of the hobby shops around you guys have these kits?
Thanks in advance for any help
Josh, could you kitbash it with some styrene?
Josh, could you kitbash it with some styrene?
I could, but that would eat up some serious time scratch building a 6' section (actually would have to be 12'; 6' for each side) of something like this, and this is what he wants it too look like LOL
I prefer to either pick up 2 of the larger kits that are sold out of Walthers (
http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/770-3546), or find another kit with something similar that is cheaper and available LOL
Josh, you need to get the Plastistruct catalog. They have window sections that are very close to that model. They also have corrugated steel roofing material, which I would imagine is what the roof would be made out of. You can set up a gluing jig to get all the windows in place in small sections, say 6 inches. Make up both sides of the window parts and then add a styrene 45 degree L angle to the top to stiffen up the sides and then add the roof sections. Glue the completed section together, using flat styrene strip under the roofs to join the sections and make the structure stiff. Glue it all together in sections on the completed understructure. Six inch long clerestroy sections are about the most you can handle at one time without things starting to break. Without knowing exactly how that kit's roof is constructed, it may not be possible to just remove the top without having a seriously weakened clerestory roof that will still need a lot of reinforcement.
