I need some track plan ideas for a new layout that I am trying to build. I have tried several different layouts but none of my ideas seem to work. I have a 13' by 13' room available to work with. I setup my benchwork in the U shape to allow for access on all sides. Each leg on the U is 8' long by 4' wide. The bottom of the U is 10' long by 4 wide. Any ideas would be great, or if someone could direct me to a good web site. Thanks

I'm confused about how you can have access to all sides of layout this large in a 13x13 room. Can you provide a sketch plan on how this is going to be built? It seems to me that you have a number of places where the reach will be at least 4 feet. That's way too big and will cause you no end of problems.

Thanks, much clearer with the diagram. I would increase the depth of the "U" section by one foot. There are still some reach issues on the top part of the layout and that one foot will help a lot. Otherwise, it looks like a great layout surface. Now, let's see your track plan. :)

UP2CSX,
I think that "U" design is what Trainstop described in the first message of this thread.

No confirmation from Trainstop yet...

Doug, missed that you were doing the drawing and not the OP. If that's what it really looks like, it should be the beginning of a nice layout.

Don't know about others, but I'd be concerned with the width left over for the two side aisles. Top and bottom are passable at two 2 1/2 ft but the side aisles have only 3 ft between them. At 1 1/2 ft each I hope you're a little thinner than I am :D
An around the walls with a center peninsula or another around the wall plan seems a better idea to me.
But again that's only my opinion for what it's worth.
Cheers
Willis
