This is a N Scale Timesaver NTRAK module. The Timesaver is a shunting layout that requires the operator to move railcars to different sidings with restricted space capacity. You can find information on the web by searching John Allen timesaver. Addition to switching the railcars manually, the locomotive is controlled and turnouts switched automatically by a programmable logic controller (PLC). For the technical geeks, I used an Allen Bradley PLC-5 with input/output cards (see photo). The PLC also controls my N Scale train layout, including an operating Coal Dumper. To play the timesaver game puzzle, I modified the origninal game rules by random selecting an assigned railcar card and moving the railcar to the siding per the card order. The timesaver is an operating challenge.
My next project is a N Scale Container Terminal with a full operational crane.
