What's the most unusual location you've seen for a layout? How about in a truck? That's what my friend Ian did. The long-distance trucker isn't home enough to build a layout in his house, so he built one in the cab of his truck.

More photos and info about the layout on my blog at

I mentioned on another forum when I saw this, I had an N scale layout in our travel trailer. I think I have photos of it on this computer (I was on my iPhone when I posted over there). Yes, I did have a model of the trailer on the layout. You can see a portion of it behind my laptop (and dog, she posts on the Alpo forum):

That's cool. I guess my small room layout wasn't a bad idea after all!..LOL..
"It's not the size of your layout....It's how well you use it!" (you can quote me on that!)
I saw them put a train set into a sleeper of a truck on the show "Trick My Truck"...If I remember right it the sleeper was painted like a tree house and had a train set inside.

oh and my dog use to chat to your dog on Alpoforums...LOL

Not so far out there. I was going to do the same thing if I went back to trucking. I had the idea before they did it on Trick my Truck. But when I get back to work, it'll be on the RR. I'll have to settle to coming home to my big layout.:D

I've seen one where it was suspended from the ceiling by cables and raised and lowered via a electric winch. When lowered it came to rest on a pool table. In fact layouts like that were kind of a fad back in the 80's.
