Anyone got any suggestions for building a modular layout? I am going to start construction on the new layout early in the new year. i am envisioning somehting that I can build in 4 to 6 foot modules so that when we eventually move I can easily move the layout and rebuild it in a new spot. I also wouls like to build it in such a way that when i get a bigger train room, I can insert modules in between existing ones. As long as my measurements are right this should be no problem. My real concern is that the modules will fit together well to provide a seemless transition for the trains. Seems like it could open up a lot of derailment opportunity.

Run solid track over your module joints - don't put any rail or roadbed joints on a module joint. When you move, cut the rail and roadbed over the joints and separate the modules.
