Hey, I can contribute to this thread. I previously lived within view of the former IC mainline in central Illinois for a number of years. I'll start out as cliché as possible.

FFG&C (Fisher Farmers Grain & Coal) 1828, a rare GP28, pulls a string of hoppers out of the elevator track in the tiny hamlet of Dewey, IL.

Here's a closeup. This locomotive was built in 1964 for the Illinois Central, and is one of only 16 of that type to be operated by a US railroad.

An overview of the grain elevator complex in Dewey, pictures taken in 2007. I used to pass by here about once a month on my drive to Chicago for work; I had a back-roads route from Champaign until hooking up with I-55 in Gardner. Over 3.5 years of doing that drive, I only saw this loco in operation once.

Sure you can. Nice old locomotive and thanks for sharing your pics with us.

While on the way back from wild west i was on US30 along Union Pacific mainline. This is part of a small foto session in Sidney, Nebraska:

Classic nowdays SD40-2 next to a gondola and a DASH9 nearby in the weeds. After traveling further east with the weather playing tricks, spotted this old style elevator in Lodgepole:

Thanks for reviving this thread. Here's the first midwest picture I found in a quick grab from my photo archives. A pair of UP Dash-8s roll into Tolono, Illinois in 2007. Note the trailer dropped into the fifth well car.

Your welcome. I always thought that was neat when they did that I have a few I took over the years I’ll try to find them and share them if I have them. See you next week.
