Does anyone make a "Chipping Facility" that takes in Logs and Sends them out as Wood Chips? 'Ive seen wood chip loaders and the paper mills that all use the wood chips but I haven't seen a building that creates the wood chips. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Tim
Doh! I looked at that and failed to read the text. Thanks...I feel a lil dumb posting this now!
Lol....no prob. Happens to the best of us. I was actually looking for something like this myself.
That's a good small wood chip facility for a layout. There's one south of here that if modeled would take up a good size area even on a large layout. The place is buzzing all the time and the trucks are coming and going 24/7. It's not only a chip mill. There's a saw mill, lumber yard and a large lot where poles, lumber and cross ties are being treated. It would be a good challenge to model.
Where is it located? As IKd like to look at it on Google Maps and see the track layout. Would it be possible for you to get photos or video of the place? Even a local doing switching there?
There's no track going in there. It's all truck traffic. It's located along highway 171 between Leesville and Rosepine Louisiana.
I built a sawmill for my N scale club and had to build one of these as well as other outbuildings for the mill. Most of what I wanted in the mill though however had to be scratchbuilt. I included not only the chip bunker, but also a sawdust loader, and a trailer loader. None of these are commercially available in N scale.
Hey I like that chip loader!
I don't have a loader but I have a chip dumper at the paper mill.
Here's some old shots from the old layout, before I added the railings and converted it to a dual cylinder lift.
