I would like to see pics of your switching yards! Large or small, empty or full! Engine service facility? Rolling stock service facility? Show em off! (Sorry west virginia, I took your idea)............:o

Thats GREAT larry! I am quickly converting over from a "Long mainrun" kinda guy to a switchyard guy. Here is mine, obviously in the very early stages! Still moving tracks and lining up. N scale. I am going to scrap my plans for a coal facility on the other end of my tables and put in a small switch yard with a maintenance facility and turntable.

Wow, Larry, that's a serious (and very believable!!) yard you have there!! :D

Here is my much more modest design and execution. It is my first such attempt. I will do a yard more justice next time around.

Looks pretty good to me, first attempt or not.

Larry~ Looks like you have some pretty interesting loads sitting in your yard.

Some fine lookin' yards here so far! Larry, I really like that engine house - is it scratch or from a kit?

This is the yard for my steel mill, the largest 'customer' on my pike. Every car that comes into this yard has a desiginated place to be spotted somwhere in the mill.

Hey, I like that overpass and engine house there, Larry. Did you scratchbuild those?

Yes Sir, the overpass is old slot car track & the engine shed is scratchbuilt. Copied it off of a picture that was on railpictures.net. It's all made out of
1/4" plexiglass & the roof is thin aluminum that a friend uses for flashing in his A/C business.

Thanx for the kind words Crandell, I mostly use those tall structures to hide the fact that I don't know squat about making 'natural' scenery (rock formations etc.):o

WOW, Some fantastic Yards. Like all of the scenery & details of which I don't spend enough time on mine. Maybe some day when I get caught up w/all the other projects.

Guys the yards look great. These photos have me wanting to build a yard of my own.
Ken - I can't wait to come see your layout sometime. The steel mill is looking nice my friend.

Well now there's some great looking yards gents!
Here's what I have so far:
The new yard in Spencer, much smaller than the old yard, is used mainly to stage blocks of cars as trains come and go, no train storage.
The yard tracks at the Fuerst Matthes Paper Mill, a bit of a switch puzzle but not too intimidating.
The shops in Spencer, no major rebuilds but a lot of maintanence goes on there.
And yes Sean, that is Mr. Hogan back at it again! :p

Nice! Very Nice Guys!

Here is the Yard at Hopewell Junction on the SLOW.

Really, really nice Ray!

I'm going to have to stop looking at these pictures. Partly due to imtimidation. Partly due to constantly wanting to change my design. LOL

Hello all!! It's been quite a while since I have been on here. Been really busy with work and working on a new layout.

Here is what I have for yards right now.

This is my small upper deck staging yard.

This is the Town of Mountain View. There is a 2 track interchange yard in the bottom right forground. In the upper far left there is a three track yard for the Town of Mountain View.

This is the Town of Pilar. This town is still under construction but will end up with a small one track yard and will also have a small one stall engine servicing facility with three tracks.
