Anyone know where to get some at a decent price??

paying $25.00+ for 3 of em is just insane. Id even take undecerated ones.

Mike

Someone here on the forum makes them, can't remember who. I bought a bunch(15) off EBay about 6 months ago for $20.00. I also bought 15 for $15.00 at a train show in March. If you're not in a hurry you might luck up on some cheap ones. I now have 76 & I didn't pay much for any of them.

I've seen some 'print on cardstock" versions that would seem to be fine for most uses.

When the printed ones 1st came out I printed about 50 of them. They are not HO scale. A lot smaller. About all they are good for is background displays. Stang, if you want them I'll send them to you in a plain brown envelope. Just PM me your full name & address.

It all depends on your preference. If you are okay with the Walthers ones, which still have a decent amount of detail in them, then go that route. You can often pick them up for real cheap, and lately Walthers has been having huge sales on them in their monthly sale flyers.

Now if you want the details and super crisp lettering, like me lol, then you will have to buy the Intermountain and Athearn Containers :D

ive never seen intermountain, ive heard they're nice tho. i've only seen walthers, athearn and a-line

Walthers containers are still close to 5 dollars apiece. Not much cheaper then 25 dollars once you factor in shipping. I brought this exact same subject up a few months back. I just cant see paying that kind of money for a small container. There is no way they cost close to that to make and its not like there are a ton of detail parts to apply from the factory. I would be all over a bunch of these if they could be found out there at a reasonable price, decorated or not.

I broke down a few weeks ago when Walthers had a few containers in thier bargain bin for around 4 bucks each though. I remember when I posted this that someone came forward and mentioned those print yourself and fold containers you download off the web. He also mentioned they were not HO scale too, he ended having to resize the file so they printed out closer to HO. Hopefully he sees this post and is willing to send out those new files, I wouldnt mind trying that out.

lol really? printing? never heard of that. i wouldnt mind tryin it either. just remember dont run trains at full speed or with the fan on in the room. might look like a tornado is rippin them right off ur train

If you get the printed ones you can cut out a pc. of wood that just fits the inside lines. After you glue them together, leave one end open & add some glue to the bottom of the wood pc. & push it inside & close up that end. Adds weight to the container.

If you have a flatbed scanner, you can make copies of your favorite containers. Simply lay them singly or stacked on the scanner and scan them into your computer. Scan the tops, ends, sides and bottom, arrange the different images in an image editing program, then print. Cut them out, fold and glue them and voila! Printed containers.

You may wish to use a balsa or basswood substrate cut to size to glue the paper to, otherwise the paper containers don't have much heft and can be dented easily.

Walthers has a few one sale in the bargain bin right now. I picked up a bunch this time around myself. Just under 4 bucks. I believe this runs today and tomorrow, they seem to typically update it with new merchandise on Mondays.
